I got away with a few splotches of blood whereas Ezekiel was in the immediate splash zone. I will shower nevertheless. This is disgusting.
“Are we agreeing, this was odd?” Ez asks, shaking his head while he takes in the whole scene.
“Definitely.” I say quietly, trying to piece together all the information.
“He must have expected someone that isn’t us. Someone that’s worse.”
Ez snorts.
“Worse than two masked men with a baseball bat and a gun?”
Nodding slowly, I let my gaze slide. I need to remember as much of this as possible, as many details as I can.
Ezekiel sidesteps the mess made and pats my shoulder with a half shrug before he squeezes past me, back into the hallway we came through.
Following him, I make sure we don’t touch anything. No need to leave behind our DNA. The can of coke he had is splattered on the wall with Gavin’s brain, but I take it anyway.
Once we’re back in the car, I turn to look at Ez. He has his jacket folded inside out and carries it in his lap, probably to not make a mess of my car, which I appreciate. Especially after Ivy cleaned it. I know Ezekiel well enough to know he wouldn’t have bothered to take the jacket off in his own car.
“If you help me get back my bike before we go, you can shower at my house.” I offer with a half smirk.
We took the honda to get back to my house earlier, leaving my bike behind in Ivory’s driveway.
Rosemary knows what Ez does, but I doubt she would appreciate her boyfriend coming home with lumps of brain stuck to his ski mask.
Glancing over at me, Ez nods.
“Deal.”
Chapter thirty three
Ivory
Posie settled in fine. I found some raw, ground beef in Derek’s fridge that I gave her for dinner together with a whole egg.
Judging from the happy pitty smile on her face right now, I’d say she liked it.
And yes, she’s a pit bull. The enormous smile and the gentle demeanour confirmed that for me.
Out of all the breeds I’ve seen, Pitbulls are the ones that suffer the hardest fates, and still come back to love humans the fastest.
A loud howl startles both me and Posie, who’s been napping on the couch next to me. She has her blocky head rested on my thighs so I can’t bring myself to get up and open the door for Derek. He has a key. It’ll be fine.
“We’re back.” His loud voice echoes through the hallway and floats into the living room. “Just taking a quick shower. I’ll join you in a sec.”
Good thing I didn’t abandon Posie, that would’ve been a waste of effort.
I can hear both Derek’s and Ezekiel’s voices trail up the stairs.
Looking down at Posie, I shrug.
“Who knows what they’ve been up to.” I say with a suggestive wink.
I do know.
They went after Gavin. But I honestly don’t feel too bad about it. He was going to leave this little piece of sunshine all alone in the dark.
Placing my thumb between her closed eyes, I watch as Posie creates the phenomenal melm, very slowly pushing her tongue out of her mouth with a satisfied slurping noise.
