“So scared to get caught,” he muses with a shake of his head. The smile is still on his face though, so I don’t think he is too angry about it. Leaning past me, he opens my car door from the inside.“Take care, little poison.”

I’m already out of the car when his voice reaches me once more.

“See you at home, mommy.”

The mock is obvious, but it’s not his tone that has me changing gears. It’s the predatory shimmer in his mossy eyes, the hunger to see me blush or be embarrassed that pulls my lips into a sticky, sweet smile as I reply.

“See you there, daddy.”

Chapter sixteen

Derek

I realize something is off the moment I step into the building. It’s a nagging feeling in the back of my head and sure enough, when I let my gaze wander through the packed room, there she is.

Platinum blonde hair straightened and perfectly shiny, lashes longer than normal and dressed in a skirt that is at least two inches too short to be decent.

I’m stuck between a groan and a grin as I make my way over to her.

“Abigail.”

She looks up at me, a very fake smile growing on her pink, glossed lips.

“Derek.” She drags out my name, saying it as if we’re old friends that haven’t seen each other in ages.

Fucks sake.

This woman is the definition of a nightmare.

“What do you want?”

Pressing one long nailed hand to her bare cleavage, Abigail faints shock before pulling her lips into a pout.

“Didn’t you want me back here?”

Nope.

Not even a little bit.

That’s what I think, but it’s not what I say.

“I remember telling you to make up your mind about a statement.”

Throwing her hands up with a giggle, she offers me a laugh that could be innocent. But I’m not buying it, nothing about this woman is innocent.

“Right.” Scrunching her nose as she smiles, Abigail leans closer to me. “But before I do, I need you to agree to one condition.”

Raising one eyebrow I wait for her to continue.

This will probably be obnoxious. Some bullshit demand she came up with on her way here, and—

“I need to move out of my apartment.”

This does catch my attention. Because it actually sounds reasonable.

“Go on.”

“If I’m telling you what I know, I can’t stay where I live now. I’ll make a statement.” Abigail’s eyes fix on mine, unblinking and a little unnerving. “But only, if you guarantee me a new apartment.”
