Good
Well done baby, you’ve been so good for me
Want you to go to sleep now ok?
You’ve been good
Chase smiled so wide it hurt his cheeks.
Charlie
Thank you Alpha
Aunix
All you, baby
Chase drifted away on a big, golden cloud.

Chase woke up like he’d broken out of an illness. As if there had been some parasite draining him away and it’d finally been removed.
He was still sore from the roller coaster of the previous day—the game, the phone call from his mom, the half conversation with Auston. The hopelessness he’d felt had dissipated, leaving something to cling to.
He could be good.
He got to practice early, managing to put a grin on his face and let out a loud, “Hi!”
Some of the guys chuckled at his entrance. Sammy raised his eyebrows high.
“Um, excuse me? Why didn’t you respond to my text last night?” he demanded.
“Oops. Sorry. Did some, like…self-care shit and went to sleep.”
“Oh. Well. That’s actually great, wow.”
Chase rolled his eyes as he got to his stall. “No need to sound so surprised. I can take care of myself, you know.”
Sammy hummed doubtfully, but Chase was in too good of a mood to start an argument.
Practice that day was like a whole new experience. He was centred, his passes snapping into place, his reactions quick and nimble.
The coach slapped him on the shoulder afterwards. “Good job out there. A big part of this game is bouncing back, and I’m glad to see your attitude today.”
Chase glowed. “Thanks, Coach.”
He practically skipped to his car when he was done with everything, turning down Sammy’s invitation to go out to lunch. He wanted to see if Aunix was available, hadn’t stopped thinking about him all day.
Charlie
Hi
If the Alpha didn’t respond soon, he’d call Sammy and join him, but he got a text a moment later.
Aunix
