“You did this, for me?”
“You deserve all the pretty things, Khione. I would make sure you have everything you could ever desire.” He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a glittering ring. He takes my hand and slides it on my ring finger.
“You don’t have to keep this forever or wear it if you don’t want, but just for tonight, pretend you are ours. Wear this as a token of our devotion.”
I look down at the ring. It’s gorgeous. There are five gems separated by diamonds. The gems are blue, but they change colour to green and purple. It’s beautiful.
It reminds me of something. With a frown, I lift my hand to where the necklace is sitting. Felix clears his throat, and I push the necklace out of my mind.
“I will wear it.” I won’t take it off. It is pretty and delicate, it’s a symbol of his feelings. It’s everything I love.
I want a bond.
I clamp my teeth on that desire, stopping it from coming out. I must not say that out loud.
My arms have him before I can make the decision, and I’m plastered to his front, gripping him so hard I feel like I want to crawl into his skin and have him melt into mine.
“Felix,” I whisper.
His lips find mine. He tastes of candied apple and spices, and I get lost in the feel of his strong hands on me, his arms around me. This omega is the perfect opposite of me, the part that’s missing. I can’t be whole without him.
I cling to him, unwilling for our moment to end, trying not to let my thoughts wander down the bleak hole that I’m spiraling down.
But then, he breaks free, looking pleased.
“Would you have dinner with us?”
I grin back at him and take his outstretched hand. “I would love to.”
Zaire is already sitting down, and Felix leads me over to sit in the chair opposite the big alpha.
Clint clears his throat and lifts a dome, revealing half a dozen cakes and slices. Then he picks up the other and reveals savory pastries. The last one holds a pizza.
“We may have cheated and bribed Yolanda and Franco into saving our bacon.”
I giggle and reach for a savory pastry. It’s ricotta and spinach, absolutely flaky heaven.
We eat.
We talk.
Every second, every minute, every hour sends me further and further in love with them.
Wait, love?
Yep, love.
I rest my chin on my hands and take them all in.
Clint shoves half a piece of Black Forest cheesecake into his mouth, his eyes blowing wide. He moans through the cake. Jace is leaning away from him, but watching with a smile. It’s indulgent and so full of emotion I think it will be impossible for these two to ever separate.
“What is your bucket list dream?” I ask the table.
Zaire shifts in his seat. “I want to go home and see Mum at the cemetery, tell her that I’m all right and mean it, then I want to go on the adventure she made me.”
“I’m sorry, what? What adventure, and why haven’t we heard of it yet?”
Zaire reaches into his pocket, pulls out his wallet and a piece of paper. He unfolds it, pausing to straighten it with each unfolding.
