She works for him. He’s protective, and he’ll think I’m crossing a line.

But June’s hand is warm in mine, and she’s swaying with me, and I can’t make myself step back.

Not when she’s looking at me like that.

She tips her head. “You’re not bad at this.”

“Low bar,” I murmur.

She smiles, a little wicked now. “Are you always this serious?”

I lean in just enough that my mouth is near her ear, my voice meant for her only.

“Only when I’m trying not to do something I shouldn’t.”

June stills.

Then she turns her face slightly, bringing her mouth close to mine without fully closing the distance.

She leans in.

“You’re smiling,” she says, delighted. “Like, actually smiling. With teeth.”

“I’m always smiling,” I protest weakly as I tuck my hands into my jeans pockets.

She snorts. “No, you perform smiles. This one is the real deal.”

I risk a glance back toward Fletcher. He’s a few steps away, talking to a couple of guys I don’t know. When his eyes flick over and catch mine, electricity snaps tight between us.

My stomach flips.
