“You're bleeding,” Howler pointed out.
“Everybody's a doctor tonight,” Mayhem grumbled.
Moon pointed to his side. “He tore his stitches again.”
Howler sighed. “Of course he did.”
Mayhem looked offended. “You're supposed to be on my side.”
“I'm Prez. I'm on the side that keeps my VP alive.”
Tempest walked over to Moon. “You good?” she asked.
“Fine,” Moon lied. Her Prez studied her, and Moon knew that look—Tempest didn't believe her, but she let it go.
Morrigan watched them. “You built yourself a pack.”
Moon looked toward Dark Chaos—Tempest, Chris, Red, and Blue. Then she looked over at the Silverfang members—Mayhem, Howler, and Chrome. “No,” she said. “I’ve built myself a family.”
Morrigan smiled sadly. “Selene would have liked that.”
Moon's throat tightened. “You don't get to talk about her like you knew what she'd want.”
“I knew her better than anyone,” Morrigan insisted.
“You haven't seen her in more than twenty years,” Moon hissed. Morrigan flinched. “She was my mother.”
“And my sister,” the older woman shouted.
“She chose me,” Moon said. Morrigan's expression shattered for half a second. Moon regretted the words immediately, but not enough to take them back.
Morrigan nodded. “Yes, she did.” Mayhem's hand settled at the small of Moon's back, warm and steady. Morrigan looked toward the mountains. “We need to move.”
Tempest crossed her arms. “Not until you answer my question.”
Morrigan looked at her. “What question?”
“What do they need Moon for?” Tempest repeated.
Morrigan's face became grim. “To open the Hollow.”
Chrome shifted back to his human form, and Chris immediately took off her jacket and threw it at him. He caught it. “Thanks.”
“Put something on,” she ordered, looking him over.
He smiled. “Why?” Does me being naked distract you?”
Chris stared at him. “I'm armed.”
“Point taken,” he mumbled.
“Where is the Hollow?” Tempest asked.
Morrigan looked toward Moon. “It's beneath the original settlement.”
“What's beneath it?” Howler asked.
“A chamber,” Morrigan said.
