"Listen to me,” she ordered.

Mayhem's claws dug into the edge of the mattress. "Moon—"

"Listen to me,” she said louder. His eyes found hers. "You are the Vice President of the Silverfang Brotherhood." His breathing remained ragged. "You survived silver poisoning." His wolf growled. "You survived those bastards leaving you for dead, and you are not letting whatever they put inside you win." Mayhem stared at her and Moon cupped his face. "And your wolf is not in charge right now. You are." Slowly, his body relaxed, and the fur receded as his claws disappeared. Moon released a shaking breath.

Mayhem leaned his forehead against hers. "Bossy little doctor."

Relief almost made her laugh. "Asshole biker." His mouth curved, and his nose brushed hers. Moon froze as Mayhem deeply inhaled her scent.

"So fucking good,” he whispered.

"Mayhem." His hand slid around the back of her neck, holding her still. His wolf rumbled deep inside his chest, and Moon's answered. She knew she should step away, but she didn't.

His lips hovered inches from hers. "You feel it, too." It wasn't a question.

Moon swallowed. "No,” she lied.

"Liar,” he challenged.

"You're injured and not thinking clearly,” she insisted.

"You’re still a liar,” he breathed. She almost smiled before Tempest cleared her throat behind them. Moon jumped backward, and a growl ripped from Mayhem’s chest.

Tempest leaned against the doorway with her arms crossed. "Don't let me interrupt whatever weird mating ritual is happening here."

"There is no mating ritual," Moon snapped.

Mayhem grinned. "There will be."

Moon shot him a glare. "Keep talking, and I'll increase your sedative."

"Promises, promises,” he teased, causing Tempest to laugh. Moon wanted to throw something at both of them, but they got a reprieve when the clubhouse alarm sounded. Every trace of humor in the room vanished. Tempest straightened, and Moon's wolf surged.

"What is that?" Mayhem demanded.

"Perimeter breach," Tempest said.

Mayhem tried to stand, but Moon shoved him back. "No, you’re too weak.”

"My brothers—" he started.

"Are capable of handling themselves,” Moon insisted.

"Moonlight,” he said, her name sounding like a warning on his lips.

"You can barely stand,” Moon said.

A gunshot cracked somewhere outside, and Tempest pulled her weapon. "Stay here."

"Tempest—" Moon tried to go after her Prez, but Tempest wouldn’t allow it.

"That's an order, Moon." She stared at her Prez, and Tempest's wolf surged. "Protect him,” she ordered before turning to leave.

Mayhem swung his legs over the side of the table, and Moon stepped directly in front of him. "Don't,” she ordered.

"Move,” he growled.

"No.” She crossed her arms over her chest, not sure if she liked the way that he looked her over or not. Her body seemed to enjoy the attention, and so did her wolf.
