“Mom, relax. I’m thirty-four,” I said with a roll of my eyes.

She glared at me. “Well, how did I know you weren’t dead in a ditch?”

“I left her carless at the Harvest Fest,” Kelsey cut in. “She was supposed to get a ride home from Declan MacGregor.”

Mom’s deposition immediately shifted, and she had a big smile on her face. “Oh, well, why didn’t you say you were at Declan’s? You had me worried.”

I sighed. “Can someone give me coffee?”
