“We wanted to,” Declan said and waved her off. “Don’t worry, I’m giving our staff overtime.”

“What do you mean?” I asked with a scowl.

We ran numbers the other day, and we were barely in the black. My brother kept telling me to worry about the beer, and he’d worry about the business side, but sometimes I wondered if I should be more involved.

“Don’t worry about it,” he said with a glare.

We would talk about that later.

There were tables in the back set up next to each other, and I led Avery to one. I told her to take a seat while I made plates for us. When I came back over to her, she was sitting with Wyatt and Lizzie, and her face was stained with tears.

“Baby, what’s wrong?” I asked as I put down our plates and sat beside her. I wiped the tears from her eyes, careful not to mess up her makeup.

“Happy tears,” Lizzie explained while she shifted her baby in her arms.

“I thought you couldn’t come,” I nodded to Wyatt.

He shrugged as he cut up food for his son sitting next to him. He ruffled his son’s hair. “This one got up before the sun.”

Avery was still in tears. “It means so much that you came.”

Lizzie squeezed her hand. “Your wedding was beautiful. It was perfect for you two.”

Avery turned to me. “Everything has been absolutely perfect.”

“Hey, c’mere.”

She gave me a funny look, and I pointed to my lips. She smiled and gave me a quick kiss. “This was perfect. You’re perfect,” she said, and she was glowing.

It wasn’t just a pregnancy glow. I’d never seen her this happy before, and I wanted to put that smile on her face every single day. I knew she thought this was a marriage of convenience, that we only got married because she was carrying my child, but I wanted so much more with her. I just had to figure out how to show her that.

“Aw,” Lizzie cried. “You’re so cute. I can’t stand it.”

I smiled at her as I took a sip of my coffee and ate some eggs.

Avery’s dad came over after we finished eating and handed me the keys to the cabin. “Here, you two,” he said with a smile.

Avery hugged her dad. “Thanks, dad. Are you sure it’s a good idea to go up to the cabin in winter?”

He nodded. “It’s all good. I went up the other day to make sure everything was prepared. Weather should be good for you; just be careful.”

Avery scoffed. “Dad, Nolan has been driving like a grandmother since I got pregnant. I’m sure it’s gonna take us like five hours to get up there.”

I glared at her. “That’s not true.”

She raised her brows but said nothing.

Sal laughed. “Welcome to the family, Nolan. This is what you signed up for.”

I smiled and put my hand on Avery’s belly. “I’m not going anywhere.”

Avery beamed at that.

Gemma raced over to us. “Hey, can you two come back over to the tree so I can get some pictures?”

I grumbled.

Gemma gave me an annoyed look. “Come on, boss man, it’s not for me; it’s for the brewery.”
