She shrugged. “I thought it was a long time ago.”

“It was only five years ago. He’s her stepson.”

Her eyes widened in surprise. “Oh! Nol, I didn’t want to tell you because I thought it would break you. It made me so mad, and I wanted to protect you.”

“That’s why I love you. You care so much about those you love; you only want to protect them.”

“I was so angry for you, and then when we were at the hospital, I don’t know… I let my insecurities get in the way.”

I lifted her left hand up and kissed it. “You’re the one wearing my mother’s ring, and you’re the one carrying my child. She’s nothing to me now.”

She gave me a sly smile and ran a finger down my chest. “I can put on the red lingerie for you again.”
