‘You’re not meant for me,’ is all he says.
‘Jude.’
‘Come for me again, Red,’ he says stiffly.
I can feel how hard he is, pressing against my arse, but when I try to wriggle myself against him, he holds me tighter, restricting my movements. I let out a frustrated huff. He slips my fingers back inside me, but they’re not enough. I need more.
‘I know you need more,’ Briggs says when I tell him. ‘But you have to work with me, Red. We can only do this.’
‘Don’t you want me?’ I whisper, and I know I’m being irrational, but I can’t separate myself right now.
I’m nothing but the desire coursing through my veins, the slick between my legs.
I groan, throwing my head back, and feel his nose trail down the column of my neck. His beard is coarse, and it feels so good against my flushed skin. His grip tightens on me, and he growls, mouth opening, tongue laving.
‘Yes,’ I whine.
He groans, rocking his hips against me once.
‘Fuck…’
‘Yes.’
His tongue is hot against my skin, and my entire body is like a live wire to his touch. I cant my hips back against him, and he growls again, praising me.
‘So good,’ he murmurs, nipping my skin.
‘Jude,’ I hiss.
But then he pulls back, breathing hard. ‘No,’ he whispers. ‘Sybbie, I can’t.’
I squirm against him. ‘Please.’
He groans, hardening his grip on my hand, the ministrations he’s making with my own slowing, the pressure growing.
‘Fuck, Sybbie. Be a good girl and come for me.’
My body submits to his command. I’m hit by another wave, and I scream, my throat open and raw, my spine arching. Heat floods me. My toes curl against the bedsheets. When I feel like my brain is about to break, the pleasure too much, the wave settles, and I feel a tiny semblance of normalcy settle within the numbness.
I lay panting against him, feeling his chest brushing against my back to the rhythm of his own hardened breaths.
And then I realise what we’ve just done, and I quickly pull away.
Briggs sits up, not making eye contact as I get out of the bed. Five minutes ago, I wanted him inside me, but now I can’t even bear to look at him. My cheeks warm.
‘That was a heat, wasn’t it?’
‘Yeah,’ he says quietly.
‘I thought they weren’t real,’ I say, voice shaking. My legs are wobbly, and my ears are ringing, but I stay standing by the side of the bed.
He smiles sadly. ‘They are. Your pack have just forgotten, being assimilated with humans for so long.’
‘Why did I, then? And why am I only just experiencing one? I’m thirty-one.’
He stares at me for a moment. And then he looks away and murmurs, ‘I don’t know.’
I head to the bathroom, feeling that shame creeping back, over what we just did, what I just made him do. Before I close the door, I see Jude leaping from the bed, following me.
