I rolled my eyes before focusing back on Aspen who was grinning from ear to ear. I guess we were amusing to her or something.

“So how has college been treating you so far? I always see you on all the HBCU dance pages, girl. You've been blending in with those vets.”

“You think so? I be trying my hardest to remember all the stands and those field shows are really no joke. We only be having two days to learn them before game day.”

“Whew, that’s tough.”

“That describes my college experience so far. I have classes in the morning and afternoon. After that I have to go to my dorm and study or do homework for a few hours that always fly by. Then I’m in practice all night. There’s no free time whatsoever, but being able to dance every weekend makes all that worth it. I’m really living my dream.”

“Then that’s all that matters. Nothing easy is worth having.”

“Right. But girl, you should gotta come to a game to see me perform.”

A few days ago I would’ve said no to that invitation because there was too much uncertainty in the air with how Armias’ family felt about me. Really, the issue was Rahesha and she was ready to wave the white flag. So I was more than happy to go to a UBR football game and see my girl Aspen dance.

“I’ll definitely come. When’s the next game?”

“Our next home game is homecoming and it’s in two weeks. The whole family is coming so you can ride with them.”

“I’ll mark it in my calendar and start looking for an outfit.”

“Alright, don’t flake!”

“Girl, I’ll be there,” I giggled.

“You promise?”

“Alright, bruh,” Armias reached over to grab his phone, but I moved it away. “Give me my phone, Lourdes.”

“We not done talking.”

“Yea, stop hating, Bubby.”

“Man, I’m not hating. Y’all literally not talking bout nothing. Call Lourdes on her phone and y’all can yap all night for all I care.”

“You acting like you got somewhere to be,” Aspen replied.

“Oh, he gon’ have to find somewhere to be because he’s not staying here,” I said as a text message popped up at the top of his phone screen. I wanted to say it was a reality check, but I was already aware of everything. I was never going to allow Armias to spend the night or do things that would send me mixed signals, but that explicit text message from Nazaria was a cruel and much needed reminder.

You still coming over tonight? I need some dick real bad, daddy.

“Damn, that’s how you feel? You kicking me out?”

“Yea. I appreciate you coming over and taking care of me, but we’re not not doing the sleepover thing. Aspen, call me tomorrow, girl,” I tossed Armias his phone. “You can go ahead and see your way out. Hit the lock button on the keypad.”

Chapter 6

Armias

*One Month Later*

“There’s bukoo pairs of designer heels for her to choose from,” Naz said as she walked into a room carrying a bunch of reusable pink shopping bags. “She has Rene’s, red bottoms, Giusseppes, and some Jimmy Choo’s. Aneesah’s heel game gon’ be fire for her birthday.”

“You said you pulled it?” I grinned while eyeing her closely. She was fresh out of the shower with a short and silk pink nightie on. Surprisingly, she had stopped wearing wigs and had been rocking natural looking long, curly weaves. It was hanging freely and wet from the shower we had just taken together. I was supposed to just be passing by to get the stuff she’d boosted for Aneesah’s birthday, but she answered the door butt ass naked. Once I was in the house she pulled my dick out and went straight to work. After two hours we were finally getting around to the reason I came over in the first place. It was all good though. It was a Sunday evening, so I didn’t have anything on my agenda today.

“You heard me, nigga. I’ma personal shopper slash stylist.”

“Yea, alright,” I chuckled. For a second it crossed my mind to preach to her that she should really consider both of those career paths. She was into the high fashion shit and she put things together really well. But Naz was committed to breaking the law. Preaching to her was the equivalent to begging a drug dealer to leave the streets alone. It was really pointless and I had better things to save my energy for.
