"I've been busy."
"You're always busy."
"I am."
"I sent it to you four days ago."
"I know."
"And then I sent you a reminder."
"I saw it."
"And another reminder."
"Saw that too."
Her eyes narrow. "So your email works. Fantastic. For a minute there, I was worried Ridgewater's entire server had specifically stopped delivering messages to you."
I shift my bag higher on my shoulder. "I'll look at it."
"When?"
"When I have time."
Her nostrils flare. "How hard is it to open a fucking email and read it? I'm not asking you to write me an autobiography. It's a preliminary list. You read the questions, tell me which subjects you're okay discussing, tell me which ones are off-limits, and then I can actually prepare for the interviews we're supposedly going to have sometime before we both die of old age."
I glance at the clock mounted farther down the hall. "We can go through them after practice."
The irritation that flashes across her face is immediate.
"You know I can't."
"Right." I remember now. Evenings are sacred territory in Taylor Lewis' extremely demanding schedule.
I scoff before I can stop myself, and apparently she hears it because her expression changes.
"What?"
"Nothing."
"No, that was definitely something. What?"
I should leave it alone.
Considering how our last argument ended, I should have learned by now that commenting on this woman's personal life never goes anywhere good.
Apparently I'm a slow fucking learner.
"What is it tonight?" I ask, unable to keep the sarcasm out of my voice. "Another party you can't possibly be late for?"
She stares at me.
Then she gives me a slow nod, her mouth curving into a smile so sarcastic I can practically taste it.
"Yep. You got me, Azuma. That's exactly it. Because that's all I do every night. Party until sunrise, recover for twenty minutes, then start all over again." She presses a hand dramatically to her chest. "God, what a life. I don't know how I manage to squeeze classes and Student Media between all the drinking and debauchery."
I clench my jaw.
