He is my friend. He has given me a safe place to stay, rearranged his entire life to protect me, and never once made me feel like I owed him anything in return. Fantasizing about dragging him into the bed—or onto the grass, apparently—feels dangerously close to taking advantage of his kindness.
"This is insane," I groan, dropping my forehead against the open manga.
Kentaro stops moving.
I immediately lift my head.
He is still on the grass, holding himself in a plank with his arms straight, his body perfectly rigid as he looks over at me. "What is?"
"Nothing."
His brow lifts.
"Absolutely nothing," I repeat, pulling the book closer to my face even though I'm fairly certain it is upside down.
His mouth curves into that slow, knowing smile that has become the bane of my existence.
And just like that, my traitorous body reacts all over again.
Damn it.
I seriously need to get a grip before I do something catastrophically stupid. Because lusting after my fake boyfriend is already dangerous enough.
But wanting him this badly while my heart is beginning to get involved?
That is how a girl ends up ruining everything.
Finally, Kentaro is done torturing me for today.
I mean... done with his workout.
Same difference.
He strolls toward the deck with a towel draped around his neck, casually wiping the sweat from his face before dragging it across his chest. A single bead of perspiration escapes anyway, lazily tracing the hard plane of his stomach before disappearing beneath the waistband of his sweatpants.
My eyes follow it.
Of course they do.
Dear Lord, give me strength.
Or blindness.
Either one works.
He stops in front of me, still slightly out of breath, smelling unfairly good despite having just exercised. "Hungry?"
I press my lips together because I'm about ninety-nine percent sure the sound that almost escaped wasn't going to be words.
"Mhmm," I manage instead.
What I want to say is, Starving.
Not for breakfast.
For him.
I want to sink my teeth into every ridiculously toned inch of that body until I've finally satisfied whatever hormonal demon has taken up permanent residence inside me this past week.
