“No,” she replied even as a pleasant tremor shot through her core. She seized the opportunity to change the subject. “So…what did you conclude from your investigation of Zott’s class?”
Real smooth, Susie.
Gosh, this man was making her more nervous than she should have been. It didn’t matter that his ethics were questionable and possibly non-existent. A part of her was attracted to him.
The plug definitely wasn’t helping. It made her entire body ache with yearning—whether she liked it or not—and she was ready to climb a tree and hump it.
“I’m afraid I was not as objective in assessing Zott’s class as I ought to have been,” Arken mused. “I was a little distracted.”
“Were you?” she asked faintly, resisting the urge to rub her thighs together.
He inclined his head towards her. “I’m glad we ran into each other. It was good to see you again.”
“It’s only been a few hours,” she pointed out.
“A lot can happen in a few hours.”
The conviction behind his words scared her. Susie licked her lips, not missing the way Arken’s gaze darted down to track the movement. Her muscles tensed as nerves danced through her, the tension in the air rising until every hair on her body stood on end. This was dangerous. She shouldn’t be here, with him…but…
She couldn’t quite bring herself to leave either.
Would he stop her if she tried?
Probably. May as well face the music.
“Why are you really here?” she whispered.
“Because, you have something of mine.”
It took her too long to realise he meant the plug.
She sat in shock.
“We really ought to remove it,” he continued.
The balcony shrunk in size, her breathing faltering.
“Why?” she whispered with both fear and excitement. “What are you going to do to me?”
Arken raised his eyebrows. “My dear, I hadn’t quite thought that far ahead. But just so there is no confusion…you do realise that plug is enchanted, don’t you?”
Susie blinked. “No…I didn’t.”
“Ahh. Well. It’s an old creation of mine, courtesy of a witch I used to know.” His voice turned lower, more gravelly. “You wearing the plug is having quite the effect on both of us. The plug’s magic is linked to the wielder. Since I inserted it for you, it’s magic extends to me.”
Anxiety sparked and she scrambled to stand, but Arken placed a hand on her knee to stop her.
The corner of his lip lifted as he leant close, a tang of citrus hitting her nostrils, something she’d hardly noticed in Zott’s musty classroom.
“The plug’s magic not only amplifies what you feel, but it allows me to experience the same sensations that you are feeling at this very moment. Every ache…every ounce of discomfort…every ounce of pleasure.”
“I don’t feel any pleasure,” she lied, the words tumbling out breathlessly.
Arken bit back a smile. “My mistake, then. But in any case…” His hand trailed down the side of her arm. “I’m finding it very difficult to concentrate with you wearing the plug. I would be much obliged if you would put me out of my misery and allow me to remove it.”
The distant sound of school bells jarred her out of her trance. She leapt to her feet as if lightning had struck her. “I’ll remove it myself.” She stepped over his legs to leave. “I have to go—I have class.”
Arken caught her wrist, forcing her to halt. “Hold on. You may find it a little difficult to remove it without my assistance.”
