Sped up the process, yes. But she knew—deep down, she knew—that she’d enjoyed having power over Arken.
“Thank you,” he said, lifting his head to meet her gaze. He was wearing a sleepy, adorable expression, and Susie couldn’t bring herself to cut him down with a retort.
“You really don’t have to thank me,” she said weakly.
Arken’s smile widened. “You know, I do intend to deliver that second orgasm.”
“Oh?”
Before she could insist that it really wasn’t necessary, Arken’s smile suddenly slipped, and his expression went eerily blank.
“Are you all right?” she asked.
He turned his head towards her a fraction, and her skin crawled with icy chills as his expression turned cold and predatory. Suddenly, the warm brown of his irises vanished as they flared red.
Her blood froze. “H-headmaster Arken?”
He gave a soft hiss, his lips retracting to bare sharp elongating fangs.
Shit. Shit. Shit.
“Arken!” she yelled.
He didn’t respond but simply lowered his head to her neck.
Susie threw her head to one side, leaning as far away from him as she could. But Arken’s weight trapped her, and she was powerless to stop him as his mouth drew increasingly close to her neck.
Susie screamed as sharp fangs pierced her throat.
Chapter 9
Fed Up
Susie
The searing pain Susie expected didn’t come, and her scream died almost immediately in her throat.
Besides the initial sting, Arken’s bite hadn’t hurt. Whatever he’d done to make the experience painless had worked.
That didn’t stop her from trembling like a leaf as he drank her blood.
What. The. Fuck?
All that gentleness. All that pretence. For what? Just so he could scare the shit out of her when he bit her without warning?
Susie held still, her chest shuddering as she took short, erratic breaths. She knew from experience that it was unwise to thrash about when there were sharp teeth in her neck, so she had no choice but to lie there. Her head felt like it was going to explode. Her face burnt up, her throat closed over, and hot tears sprang to her eyes.
Shit.
I’m going to cry.
She wasn’t scared for her life. Maybe she should have been, but she was too shocked by the headmaster’s snap-change in demeanour. He did not seem himself—he emanated a cold ruthlessness that pushed the air from the room and made her feel small.
It had come out of nowhere, and it was fucking scary.
It didn’t help that she was lying on her back and that Arken’s chest pressed down heavily now. She now realised how careful he’d been earlier not to crush her when he’d lain on top of her.
A gurgled sob broke out from her throat.
