“You promised you wouldn’t hurt me,” she said, accusation sharpening her tone.

“I said it doesn’t have to hurt. But I also said that I want it to feel good for you. Sometimes, a little pain can bring great pleasure.”

“That’s a contradiction,” she protested.

“Not necessarily.” He tilted his head at her. “I intend to make sure that by the time I’m done with you, you will have thoroughly enjoyed yourself.”

A bitter laugh erupted from her throat, taking him by surprise.

He stilled. “You don’t believe me?”

“I seriously doubt I’ll enjoy myself.”

“Why’s that?”

Susie turned her head to the side, looking anywhere but him, as if she regretted her words.

“Susanna,” he warned. “Tell me.”

She shook her head again.

It was almost worth admitting that she’d never climaxed during sex to watch the blood drain from Arken’s face.

“So…this will be your first?” he asked, removing her legs from his shoulders and setting them down.
