“Well, your thoughts were very loud. I could hear you.”

“You could?” Interesting. Their mental link wasn’t even in place. He pulled back to study her. Had she really heard his thoughts? Or was it simply intuition?

She looked aghast, her face reflecting deep worry. “You can’t kill your father. You said so yourself—you’ll be cursed.”

Nathaniel didn’t say anything. He lifted Kira up into the air, wrapped her legs around him, and pinned her against the tiles, his erection pressing at her entrance.

“Stop trying to distract me,” she snapped, fixing him with burning eyes.

“Is it working?”

She shook her head.

“Are you sure?”

Kira’s lips parted in a silent moan as he pushed his cock inside her in one, slow, smooth motion, until he had penetrated her to full hilt.

There was a slight tremor to her voice as she spoke. “Promise me you won’t. I can’t live without you.”

He drew his cock out slowly but didn’t answer.

“Nathaniel, please. Answer me.”

He thrust into her, hard.

“Please.”

He thrust again, harder.

“Nathan—”

“I promise.” It was a lie, and he hated himself for that. But to let her go ahead with this dangerous mission was unthinkable.

One small lie…in exchange for her wellbeing.

He thrust again. “I will find someone else to kill my father.”

Another lie.

If not Kira, then it has to be me.

Even if his father lost the magic protecting him, Henrikk was too careful. Only someone who he explicitly trusted—or underestimated—would have half a chance of succeeding.

Which made Kira the perfect candidate.

And it made him an even better one.

“And if you can’t find another way?” she asked, her eyes glazing as she shuddered from the impact of his cock.

He offered her a grim smile. “Then that’s a lack of imagination on my part, isn’t it?”

“That’s not funny.”

There would be no convincing her, but his duty to protect her was too strong. The kingdom’s need for a just ruler like Kira too great. She was strong, pure of heart, and stubborn as fuck, and if she ever discovered her magic, she would be truly formidable.

That was why she had to survive. What happened to him was of little consequence where the rest of the world was concerned. With Henrikk slain, they needed a ruler to unite them—otherwise, there would be anarchy.

Which was why he found himself lying to the woman he loved. If his greatest purpose was to protect her, then he would do so now, and die with some semblance of honour, even if the curse condemned him for killing his own father.
