Kira visualised the territories and places like a chessboard before her. Volmasque at the centre of the Capital, and on one side of the city, her little village of Nordokk where Byron and Mary had raised her. On the other, Wintermaw Keep, an elegant countryside estate. She knew what needed to be done to regain control of the Capital and surrounding territories.

But right now, she was just a pawn, to be used and pushed around by others.

But even a pawn could be dangerous if underestimated. Being close to the vampire prince, even as his ‘pet’, could give her the advantage she needed. It was time to do exactly what Nathaniel wanted of her: to become the docile, obedient sex slave he so obviously wanted.

Kira’s breathing calmed, and the tightness in her chest eased. She felt numb, and that was good.

She was ready.

She took the stairwell, stopping in her room to change clothes before descending deeper into the underground dormitory’s depths. She went through the quiet common room until she was standing before Nathaniel’s door. Her arm did not feel like her own as she reached to knock on his door.

At the last moment, she changed her mind about knocking, and threw the door open instead. Nathaniel would be suspicious if she was too docile from the start, and it was a good excuse to glare at him now.

He looked up from where he sat in his armchair. “You wore your school uniform…are you aware it’s Saturday?”

“I thought it would please you.”

“It does. Very much.” His expression grew stern, his voice edged with chips of ice. “Keeping me waiting, however, does not please me.”

“I’m sure I can make it up to you,” she said, entering the room and slamming the door behind her.

I’m sure you’ll get over it.

He’d warned that the terms would be worse if she left, but she didn’t dare ask what that meant. He wouldn’t tell her until it suited him to do so.

Nathaniel stared at her expectantly, but she was already kneeling on the carpet in the spot he’d pointed to last night. There. Now, it was her turn to stare expectantly at him.

His lip curled and he snapped the jewellery box open. The steel plug gleamed, and Kira felt a sense of dread wash over her even as a tingle ran through her body as Nathaniel rose. “Let us begin.”

She dropped her head, her heart fluttering as Nathaniel drew near. His feet entered her vision—elegant, black shoes, a glimpse of silk socks, and expensive slim-cut pants hemmed to sit on the top of his shoes. He hadn’t changed since last night, and probably hadn’t risen from the armchair at all while he waited for her.

“Look at me, Kira.”

He was standing right in front of her, and she had to arch her neck back to meet his gaze. She swallowed. It was a vulnerable position, and she hated him, even as a part of her yearned for him to tell her what to do.

“This is your last chance to leave, pet,” Nathaniel said. “If you stay, you will spend the entire weekend with me.”

The entire fucking weekend?

She bit her lip to stay quiet.

“You will eat off the floor and sleep in my room and do exactly as I command. You will not leave this room until Monday morning, when you will leave with your ass plugged.”

She cringed. “And then?”

“You will attend class as per usual and await further instructions from me.”

A shuddery jolt travelled through her, rendering her breathless. “You expect me to wear it to class?”

“I expect you to do as I say.” His cold eyes bore into hers. “I did warn you not to leave, Kira. Had you stayed last night, I might have let you enjoy the rest of your weekend as you deemed fit. As things stand, you will stay here and serve me as I deem fit.”

“Do I have to share your bed?” she asked sulkily.

Nathaniel’s eyes twinkled with amusement. “Pets sleep on the floor.”

Bastard.

Although, the floor would be preferable to sharing with him.
