She only needed the paring knife.

She was going to make Nathaniel pay for everything he’d done to her—and to the other female wolves he’d taken advantage of.

“Susie, do you think you can help distract Professor Parna for me?”

Susie’s eyes gleamed. “Consider it done.”

Chapter 21

Teach Me

Nathaniel

Nathaniel had tossed and turned in his bed, torn between concern for Kira and his insatiable lust. It would have been wrong to jerk off when she was lying, barely conscious, in her own bed just a few floors above him.

Not until I’m entirely certain she’s recovered.

He was too worked up to sleep. He’d never wanted to fuck something so badly. Human form, or wolf form, he had to have her, if only to get it out of his system.

Common sense prevailed—but only just, and as the hours ticked by, he was only ever a mere heartbeat away from springing out of bed.

By the time morning came, his carnal lust had mellowed, and he entered the common room feeling irritable. He slumped in the dining chair beside Victoria.

“So?” she asked, combing her immaculate fringe with her long bright nails. “Did you end up fucking her?”

It was none of her business, but Victoria seemed to read the answer on his face, because she clicked her tongue sympathetically.

“That’s a shame. Maybe next time?”

Nathaniel didn’t bother enlightening her with how’d he’d quashed the Poplarin’s initiation ceremony. Gossip travelled quickly, some stories more accurate than others, and the whole academy would know what had happened mid-morning. Let Victoria decide which juicy version she preferred. His only concern was how it would impact Kira, but it was too late to worry about her reputation now.

She was his.

Nathaniel left soon after and went upstairs to his office. He didn’t have the patience to play ‘student’ today. He had more important work to do—like deciding what the hell he would do when his father arrived in a few weeks for their annual meeting.

Every year, Henrikk, the Vampire King, demanded a report on the number of targets Nathaniel had located. His role as security officer was little more than a front to disguise his real job at the academy: weeding out the last of the royal wolf bloodline.

So far, Nathaniel had yet to meet his quota, which was anything above zero. His father did not tolerate zero.

And although Nathaniel hadn’t captured any shifters yet, he had something special in mind to placate his father. Something that the King desired even more than a wolf with royal blood: two of them.

Nathaniel sighed and halted his pacing to stare out of the open windows at the grounds below. The lawns were empty, the only sign of life the grey mottled pigeons cooing on the roof eaves opposite him. He smiled. It was such a simple thing, but he’d always loved their soothing calls. He wondered if Kira did too.

He remained in his office until late afternoon. He forced himself to work, but he was uninspired. As the hours passed, his anticipation grew, until he was forced to admit that he wasn’t hiding in his office after all.

He was waiting.

And hoping.

He stopped breathing when a soft knock came at the door.

Could it be?

No one ever came to his office at this time of day except his father, who was not due for several more weeks, and the only other visitors were students who snuck in during the small hours to gawk at the horror show of pelts on display.

He straightened his tie and stood. “Come in,” he said,

The door creaked opened. His insides froze at the sight of Kira, fidgeting shyly as she stood in the doorway. Her lips were full and glistening in a soft pout, her expression was grim, and her chocolate-brown hair luscious as it fell across her shoulders. It can’t have been just the amalgamation of their blood in his system—she was stunning.
