The bathroom door closed, and he heard the lock click. Smiling, he opened a chest near the window. It was full of treasures—polished leather, soft coils of rope, glittering jewels to adorn her body, and long thick objects of every shape and size. Kira was not the first wolf he’d entertained in his room, but she would be the last.

He hummed as he pulled several items out of the chest and carried them to the bed. The sound of splashing water was audible through the bathroom door. Sooner or later, she would come back out.

And then they would play.

Chapter 37

The Vampire’s Bed

Kira

Kira crept to the large bed dominating Nathaniel’s room. Her skin was damp, her hair trickling water down her back. The bastard hadn’t given her a towel.

Nathaniel held one out to her. “Here.”

“I’m fine.” Kira gave a mock-cheerful smile as she sat on the edge of the bed, making a show of wringing her hair out onto one of his pillows.”

“The towel is for your own comfort,” Nathaniel explained.

“Are these for my comfort?” Kira asked, gesturing at the bed, where several intimidating objects awaited. Her bravado faltered as she tried to imagine what he intended to do with the mix of chains, ropes, and leathers.

“I’ll let you be the judge of that,” Nathaniel said, standing before her and nudging her legs apart with his. “But no, they are not intended for your comfort.”

He pushed her back onto the mattress.

The black satin sheets were cool on her skin, the mattress luxurious and soft. Without warning, Nathaniel seized her legs and lifted them high onto his shoulders.

“What are you doing?” she cried in alarm, her face flushing with heat.

“I’m going to teach you a lesson.”

To her chagrin, he lowered his head, trailing a fang along her inner thigh. She watched him stop to suckle her skin. She’d heard there was an artery in the upper thigh that some vampires favoured during sex—information she wished she hadn’t learnt from Victoria.

“Are you going to bite me?” she asked anxiously, conscious of her naked legs sticking up in the air, and of Nathaniel’s lips as they grew dangerously close to her pussy.

Nathaniel froze. “No, Kira, I’m not going to bite you.” He pressed a soft kiss on her thigh. “Never again.”

Something about the way he said it made her feel crestfallen. “Why not?”

He pressed another hot kiss to her thigh. “Because I’m old fashioned. As a general rule, I never feed from the same person twice. The first bite is merely for feeding purposes—or in this case, I claimed you.”

Kira felt a jolt as he said ‘I claimed you’.

“So, to feed from a person once is a necessity to maintain vitality,” he continued. “But to feed from the same person twice, well…that means something to me.” Nathaniel stopped kissing her.

“What does it mean?”

“It depends on the vampire,” he murmured, his eyes twinkling as he ran his tongue along her sensitive wet slit, drawing a gasp from her.

“What does it mean for you?” she asked shakily.

His voice was rough as he spoke. “Love.”

An awkward silence ensued.

She was stunned, and more unsettled by the word ‘love’ than everything else combined. “So…” She searched for a change of subject, but only managed to say, “I suppose you would run out of victims quite quickly if you’re choosing someone new each time. Or do you feed on animals?”

Nathaniel shrugged. “I rarely bite wolves or humans. Occasionally, animals. But I supplement in other ways.”
