Fuck, I want his touch even when he’s the damn sex toy, but as a human it’s so much better. His lips, his body… all of it. When we’ve talked, I even get little glimpses of his mind. He’s more than just a brainless, sex-driven jock. Dylan warped my idea of what jocks are like, and Lachlan’s quickly proving that not all of them are bad.

I decide to go for it and primp a little. Even if things fizzle and die between us once Lachlan’s not dependent on me, he’s not going to sell me out for anything embarrassing that might happen anyway. How could he? That would lead to a lot of things we can’t quite explain.

“I’ll be right back,” I tell him, curious now if he sleeps as a vibrator or not. He never seems tired when he shifts, so maybe the constant state of being awake is just part of being an object. He hasn’t complained about it yet, and most of his days since Friday are spent like this. “I won’t be long. Then we’ll… talk.”

I almost turn him on to hear his response, but chicken out at the last moment. If he’s upset about me passing out, I can wait on that a little bit longer to hear him complain about that. I wouldn’t dare ask him questions like this; that’ll just make this morning drag on forever when he should be a man again by now. I owe him that much.

Flying through most of my shower, I can’t decide what makes me most nervous. Being done with Lachlan hanging around? That part should be good, because it feels like I’m having a lot of conversations with myself lately.

Not carrying around a sex toy everywhere I go? That part is very good, because if someone ever catches me holding that in the wrong place it will be incredibly hard to explain.

Going back to being alone?

That part keeps me in the shower the longest, the water running down my skin. I wasn’t completely alone before this; I have my friends. But now there’s going to be a rift between me and Cora for the foreseeable future, and Londyn’s been busy the whole week so we haven’t confided in each other. Right now, the week really does feel lonely. Outside of Lachlan I haven’t had anyone consistently by my side, and sure, he was never around before, but the emptiness when this is over feels more ominous than what I had before.

When I get out of the shower, I pace over to the bed in nothing but my towel. My hair is mostly wet still after spending the time lotioning up, and I left my glasses on the side table earlier. I almost pick them up, thinking about how Lachlan seems to like them, but end up leaving them where they are as I slide into the sheets.

Opening the towel, I reach over and pick up Lachlan. I’m so ready to have him here as a man. Without wanting to delay anymore, I press his button and move him towards my bare pussy.

His voice roars to life past the buzzing, startling me. “Iris!”

“What?” I hiss, frowning. It’s hard to tell what he might be feeling when his voice is distorted like that, but he’s loud when he cries out my name. It’s not surprise or seduction in his buzzing tone but… fear?

“You aren’t alone.”

Lachlan’s weird, buzzing words settle over me at the same time that the closet door opens, and a cry catches in my throat.

Dylan is there, curious eyes staring between me, the toy, and the bedroom. I drop Lachlan, terrified, and his voice disappears as I cover myself up with the towel again. Even though Dylan should be a threat right now, the confused look on his face somewhat cracks through the mask of anger.

“Iris,” he says carefully, surveying my bed. There’s no way Dylan knows Lachlan is a toy, unless he’s been here all goddamn night and saw him shift. “Where the fuck is Lachlan?”

I swallow, unsure what to say. I do not want Dylan here, and I’m trying to remember every detail of last night to figure out how Dylan got into my apartment. He’s beaten on the door and yelled loudly at me to open the door in the past, but nothing like this. He’s never snuck in before, and up until now, I didn’t think he was capable of doing this.

“Where is he?” Dylan snaps, storming over. “I heard his voice.”

I cower backward in the bed, hating the moment Dylan gets closer and blocks the path out of my bedroom. Fear clings to my chest, and I scramble around until I find Lachlan in the sheets again. I’m too afraid to risk turning him on right now in case he wants to make another smart remark, but feeling him in my hand reminds me I’m not alone.

But Dylan doesn’t know that.

“I—I don’t know what you mean,” I say, feigning ignorance. I’m not sure it’s going to work, but maybe he’ll just buy that it wasn’t Lachlan speaking in person, but a recording or something. Anything has to make more sense then hysterically trying to tell Dylan the voice he heard came from my vibrator.

Dylan groans. “Iris, don’t act dumb. I went through all this trouble to get in here and talk to you, and now you’re lying to me?”

Does he not understand that sneaking into my apartment voids being polite? “Lachlan isn’t here, Dylan. I mean, look around. You just… you walked out of my closet. Where would he be?”

Thinning his lips, Dylan seems to consider what I’m saying. Reasonably, he should believe me. Lachlan’s a big guy, so there’s no way he just ducked down and disappeared from sight.

Trying to even out my breaths, I force a fake smile and try to soothe Dylan’s paranoia. I don’t need violence right now, and with help literally an orgasm away, I’d love a minute to get Lachlan out of the toy and here with me. I’d prefer to do that without Dylan watching, but the closer he gets the less likely that seems.

Didn’t Lachlan give me that corny line about fighting my enemies for me? I’m about to take him up on the offer.

“You shouldn't be here Dylan,” I say carefully, keeping the towel clasped tightly against me. “How did you even sneak in here?”

“You didn’t put in the chain on your door,” Dylan replies, and I’m surprised that’s the deterrent. “I’ve fiddled with enough locks on the side that I know how to pick one. Your apartment has shitty security, and your neighbors follow their routines like clockwork. I just needed to bide my time. The chain wasn’t in place, so it was easy enough to pick the lock and get in here.”

Oh god, I never thought to ask Lachlan about closing my door. I fell asleep too fast post sex to worry about it, and at the time when I passed out, I felt safe. Even if something insane like this happened, I had another person within arms reach to be on my side.

Lachlan is still within arms reach, but he’s a hell of a lot harder to communicate with right now. The chain was such a miniscule thing at the time, but now I might pay for the oversight.
