And that’s when the gorgeous girl rushes between us, her hands raised.

“Stop,” she yells. “Stop it, all of you.”

The tattooed man smiles at her, clearly not in the mind to follow anything she says.

And that’s when there’s a loud clocking of a shotgun.

It’s the bartender. He has his gun raised up, pointed at both me and the thug. Everyone freezes, even the girl.

“Get out of my bar,” he tells the not-so-friendly-looking guys.

“Or what?” asks the leader of the gang.

“Or your tombstone will read that you were shot down in my bar.”

Sword Face drops the darts and glares at me, knowing he’s lost this one.

“I never forget a face,” he threatens me.

I don’t say anything in response, but glare right back at him. I really want him to never forget my face.

It’s only when they all walk out of the door that the tension in my body dares to loosen.

And I start to feel the pain. All over.

I was hit worse than I thought, and it’s only now that the danger is over, and my adrenaline is gone that I feel it.

Fuck. You idiot, Caspian.

“You okay?” the nice-looking woman asks me, her face full of concern.

This is definitely not how I meant my night to go at all.

Trouble always finds a way of reaching me, doesn’t it…

“Yeah, I’m good,” I manage to say before my vision blacks out and I collapse to the ground.

CASPIAN

I wake up somewhere dark. I try to look around and get a hold of my surroundings, but I can’t see shit. It takes a moment for my eyes to adjust to the dim.

My body wakes up. I’m lying down, that’s for sure. On some kind of hard bed.

There’s someone standing over me.

I want to move. I instinctively want to defend myself from whoever this person is, but there’s a hell of a lot of pain coursing through my body and I can’t do a damn thing.

Fuck. What happened? Why did I black out?

Right. I remember what happened. The bar fight. The tattooed thug and his friends. The stupid brawl I should not have got myself involved in.

I can see the person standing over me now. I recognize her.

The girl from the bar.

The pretty one who I idiotically tried to defend. She’s staring at me with her bright blue eyes and delicate, full lips.
