But I can’t stop myself. Elsa is the priority here, not me.

The front passenger door flies open, and out steps the man I loathe more than anyone else on the planet. Sword Face himself. While his lackeys seem like airheaded losers, he scans the tree line like a pro. He’s smart and cunning, I can tell. I have to duck my head momentarily so he doesn’t spot me, though I know I’m too far away to be clearly seen.

He’s careful, I’d give him that.

He barks an order at one of his goons, and they reach inside the car.

And pull out my girl.

I recognize her straight away. Elsa’s kicking and yelling as they take her out by the hands, fighting like my girl should, but the men all gather to stop her with their strength. She has no chance against their hold. One takes her wrists, and the other takes her legs.

Bile rises in my throat.

How dare these scum touch my woman.

I want to jump out now, to scream and charge towards them, but I hold myself back with every fiber of my being.

Not. Yet.

The overpowering urge is still with me as I watch Sword Face order her forcibly inside.

My hate for the man somehow grows even stronger.

I quickly message Cyrus, double-checking he’s got my current location and telling him what I’ve just witnessed. He messages me back immediately.

Don’t go in alone. Wait for us.

I exhale and shake my head. To wait and do nothing while those assholes have Elsa makes me sick to the stomach. To do nothing goes against all my instincts. But I don’t even know how many guys are in the barn or what kind of weaponry they have. What they’re prepared to do to protect their prize.

But my girl’s in there. I may be many terrible things, but I am loyal to the death. I pray to God that she doesn’t get hurt. That I can hold out for Cyrus.

But then I hear a scream from inside the barn.

Her scream.

Fuck…

It’s too much. I can’t bear it.

Fuck my safety and everything else, I’m going to go in.

ELSA

The first thing the bastards try to do to me inside the barn is to tie me to a chair. Well, I’m not allowing that to happen.

I punch the guy trying to pin me down in the same way that Caspian has taught me how to. Aiming for his face, I feel the shattering of the bones in his nose.

“Fuck!”

The man screams and stumbles back, clutching the bloody space between his eyes.

“The bitch broke my nose!”

Like with a lot of things, Shade doesn’t seem to give a damn. “You allowed yourself to get hit in the face, Jared. Serves you right.”

I steady myself and raise my fists in preparation for the next son of a bitch who wants to test me. Shade merely laughs at my attempt at self-defense.
