“You know something’s going on between us?” I ask.
Guilty.
I’ve not spoken about Bishop and me and us together again to anyone, but it seems like smart Maddie has sniffed things out.
She’s too good.
She pats me on the back. “Come on, Chloe, you should know as well as anyone the Ravaged boys aren’t hard to read,” she replies coyly. “Bishop has suddenly become a lot happier these last few days, and you have completely and mysteriously disappeared from all contact; I don’t have to be Sherlock Holmes to connect the dots presented before me.”
I laugh. “You are perceptive, Maddie, I’ll give you that.”
“So I got it right? Exciting.”
“Please don’t make a song and dance about it.”
She crosses her heart. “I swear I won’t tell a soul.”
“Thanks.”
“Please sit,” she says, gesturing to her couch. She asks me what drink I’ll like.
It’s when she brings me a coffee that I ask her how the pregnancy is going, hoping to change the subject from Bishop and me.
“How is the baby?”
Maddie swats away my question. “Oh, all good, but I want to hear about you and Bishop. You can’t hide this from me, Chloe. With Ravaged, I feel like I’ve entered into a never-ending soap opera and I can’t get enough now. My life was so boring before Axel strutted in and ruined it.”
“Yeah, those boys do lead pretty dramatic lives.”
“You don’t say,” Maddie replies with a wink. “I live vicariously through them and they provide hours of entertainment. So, tell me about you two. Give me the gossip.”
I decide to tell her everything. I mean, she is the only person on the planet who might understand what it’s like to be head-over-heels in love with an international rock god, so I know I can trust her. No one else could possibly understand what it’s like to be with someone from Ravaged.
I let her know everything that’s passed between Bishop and me. All our backstory and everything that’s happened these last few crazy days. From me hating his guts to him saving my career. The entire whirlwind.
“And so,” I conclude. “I’ve signed the contract and now I’m going to make an album with Mickey Miller’s team.”
Maddie’s face drops into shock. “Wow, Chloe. You’re going to be a star.”
I blush again. “Well, we’ll see about that. I need to put in the work first…”
“For sure you are,” she replies, rubbing my knees affectionately. “And what I love most is you and Bishop being back together. You seem so happy by it. I can literally see it on your face when you talk about him. You’re in love, Chloe. And, my God, you should see what he’s been acting like these last few days when he’s come around to be with Axel. That man is ecstatic. He’s acting like he’s God’s own gift to the world. That’s all you.”
“Well, the sex has been pretty damn crazy,” I remark, and we both fall into a fit of giggles.
“You two have picked up the pieces from seven years ago,” Maddie says, snorting. “That must be pretty hot to rediscover someone’s body like that.”
“Yeah. It’s steamy.”
“Now this I need to find out more…”
I snort. “I thought you were pretty shy?”
“I gotta get my fix somewhere, Chloe. As I said, Ravaged is like a live soap opera happening before my eyes.”
The doorbell rings.
Our heads turn to the front of the house in unison.
