“I don’t grovel or beg,” I snarl back.
Drake just laughs. “Well, you’ve got to do some kind of pleading after the way you treated her.”
“You were the one who didn’t let her join Ravaged.”
“But I wasn’t the guy who broke her heart.”
“Drake…”
“First, it’s Axel with Maddie, and now it’s you with Chloe. Remember those rules we made as a band? The music is what’s important, not the girls.”
“I know.”
“I won’t have this band’s quality sacrificed because you and Axel’s dicks fall in love,” Drake says sternly.
“Man, you’re being rude tonight.”
“Remember those rules, Bishop. Ravaged is the most important thing in our lives. The band will suffer if you guys all start focusing on girls instead of what we’ve got here.”
Drake and these rules. They were fine when we were teenagers, just starting out as a band, but now…
“I wouldn’t lose sight of our mission, Drake. Even if Chloe’s back in town.”
“Good to hear.”
“Let’s just leave it at that.” I don’t want a fight. I know how unmovable Drake is on this topic.
“Yep. Just remember what the most important thing is.”
Breaking up our little tit-for-tat is Drake’s phone ringing. He quickly diverts his attention away from the road down to the screen.
“Are you going to take that?” I ask him. “I don’t mind.”
“Ah, it’s just a random girl I slept with the other night,” Drake says as he rejects the call. “That’s my burner phone ringing. I give that number out to girls and I never answer it. See, you can have girls, Bishop. Just don’t let them come between you and the music.”
I let out a disapproving scoff. “Man, you’re worse than me.”
“We all have our vices, Bishop. Mine is just never giving a shit about any relationship longer than a night.”
“As you keep reminding everyone. You do you,” I say.
“So, what are you going to do now that Chloe is in town for the next few days?” Drake asks me. “What’s the big plan?”
“I’m gonna find her.”
“Oh, yeah?”
“What do you think? Should I give Lucas a call?”
“Why would you call our manager?” he asks me.
I turn to Drake and roll my eyes like he’s an idiot. “Because he knows how to find anyone in this city. Even someone who doesn’t want to be found by me.”
“And what, pray I ask, are you going to do when Lucas finds her?”
I dig into my pocket for my phone. I pull up Lucas’ number on the contacts list. “I don’t know what I’m going to do,” I reply. “But I’ve certainly got unfinished business with her.”
