She tossed the phone onto the bed and flopped down beside it. Cheeks flushed, chest heaving—she’d never looked more beautiful.
“That went well,” she said.
“Is it weird that watching you argue is a turn-on?”
“Possibly, but I need something to take my mind off it, so…”
Breakfast could wait.
Everything else could wait.
That was why the toast got cold.
That was why they skipped lunch.
That was why Levi forgot about Alexa’s note until the evening when pizza arrived.
Last night, they’d been rabid, but today, they tried slow and sweet, and then they took a shower together and spent the rest of the day in bed. There would be plenty of time for work tomorrow.
“Could you look at this website for me?” he asked. “I need to get a phone.”
“Oh! Alexa left a phone for you, and a laptop—they’re in the den. But I can look.”
The website belonged to an offshore bank, and when Sera typed in the username and password, an account appeared in Levi’s name. The balance was ten million dollars. What the fuck?
Sera’s eyes bugged out of her head. “That’s a lot of zeroes.”
“Yeah, it is.” Familiar feelings of frustration returned because what the hell stunt had that little brat pulled this time? “Do you have a number for Alexa?”
“Not a number, but she put an app on my phone. It’s more of a button.”
“Call her.”
Alexa picked up almost immediately, probably because she never moved more than three feet from an electronic device.
“Hey, did you find the macarons? And Ari wants you to call her when you’ve finished doing gross stuff with Levi.”
“It’s Levi.”
“Oh.”
“Alexa, why is there ten million bucks in a bank account with my name on it?”
“Because you were a dumbass and donated all your restitution money to a prison art program. And also because you deserve it.”
“You can’t just give someone ten million dollars.”
“Why not?”
A good question. “Because…because…”
“Be nice to Serafina. We like her.”
Alexa hung up, and Levi shook his head.
“She hasn’t changed a bit.”
