“Here you go.” Dad handed Tillie the card Mom had sent him for as my siblings started bickering in the background. “They’re amazing and tell them we sent you their way. The contractor we worked with was fantastic. No bullshit trying to get costs to go up.”

“Thank you.”

She handed the card over to Jack asking if he could keep it in his wallet for her and he did.

Tillie held up her yellow device she had gotten off the table and snuggled into me as she started playing with it.

I inhaled deeply, loving the way her scent surrounded me, slightly heavier than normal.

Maybe it was just her contentment at this moment?

When was the last time she had a heat?

Then I recalled her getting meds at the clinic a while back and knew we didn’t have anything to worry about.

Tillie

“How about this one?” I asked, as I flopped back onto the mattress. Jack moved to the other edge and laid down, stretching one arm out toward me. I spread out and tried to reach him, both of us laughing when we didn’t even get close to touching.

“Well, I’d say it has room,” he mused. “Is it soft enough?”

I sat up and bounced a little before snuggling on my side. “Yes,” I confirmed.

The bed was a large rectangle, soft yet firm enough to be perfect, and more than big enough to fit us.

I still can’t believe they convinced me.

After we got the business card Kai called the next morning, saying the Ames referred us. She had an opening and the next thing I knew, the crew was there after lunch. We went through the work itself, which turned out to be just putting up drywall, adding flooring, painting, and installing ductwork for ventilation.

After that, it was a whirlwind of paint colors, flooring options, and one overwhelmed omega.

Now it was the next day and Jack dragged me out to the mattress shop. It would take weeks to come in, but it would also take a few weeks to complete all the work, even with a crew of their size.

“Then this is the one,” Jack said. He must have said the magic words because a sales girl was there in seconds.

“I hear we’ve decided,” she grinned at me. “I’d love to help finalize the details.”

“I’ve got that handled.” Jack grinned at me and followed after the beta to do just that. I didn’t bother to argue, because he was already too adorable. Before I could say a word, my phone rang in my pocket. I pulled it out quickly, frowning at my doctor’s office name on the screen.

“Hello?” I answered, confused. I’d just seen them for all my refills. Hell, I was over a month in at this point.

“Ms. Ashford?” the peppy voice on the other end asked.

“Yes, this is she,” I answered, still confused why I was getting a call. I had scheduled my next appointment already when I was there… didn’t I?

“Do you have time to talk? This is a bit personal.”

My brow furrowed, trying to think of why they could be calling me about that would be this serious.

“Tillie?” Jack called from the counter with the saleswoman. “Is everything okay?”

“Yeah, I’m fine,” I smiled at him. “Just a quick personal call.”

“Oh, there’s an empty office right over here if you need some quiet,” the beta spoke up. She walked me over and directed me to the place and turned on the lights. With one last smile she was off, closing the door and heading back to complete the order.

“Okay, I can talk now,” I said to the woman over the phone. “Sorry about that.”

“No worries at all, honey.” She cleared her throat. “I’m calling because we did get some news from the manufacturer this morning about the heat suppressants that have gone out in the past month. There’s a recall on a set of batches that went out and your meds have one of those numbers.”
