“Okay,” I said, giving in but still curious. “Now why did you call earlier?”

He flashed me a flirty smile. “Aiden and I were talking. We haven’t had a chance to hang out without alphas hovering and taking over. We thought maybe we could take you out on a date.”

“I should be clearing rooms,” I said with a chuckle. “But how could I say no to an offer like that?”

“Good, because we planned the best date. So, we better get a move on. Come on, you fluffy creature. March!” Kai said, his loud voice had the alpaca looking up, jaw still chewing the grass he’d plucked from the ground. The pure boredom on his face was hilarious, but, thankfully, as I started to move forward he followed.

“It’s nice that Aiden has someone to look out for him,” I said quietly. “It’s hard to be different in a world that expects everyone to be the same. I had the luck to be raised by parents who were free spirits and wanted us to follow our hearts. The rest of the world isn’t always kind. It’s nice to have at least one person who sees you and knows what you need without having to fight for it.”

His cheeks flushed, and he ducked his head, but not before I saw the small smile on his face.

“Thanks.” That was all he said, but I didn’t need anything more.

We walked through the pasture, the fence finally coming into sight. The fence post had given way and fallen forward, leaving a large gap.

“Back home you go,” I urged the alpaca, waiting until he was on the other side before taking off the lead.

Then I studied the fence. I’d have to try and rig the fence to stay upright. The post might be busted, but I found a large stick, weaving the wire through it before stabbing it into the dirt.

“Here, let me offer my muscle,” Kai said as he gripped the stick as well, both of us putting our weight into it until the stick sank down enough to hold.

“Perfect,” I beamed. “Temporary but secure for the moment. Aiden should be here by now. Let’s go tell the farmer and get on our way. Though I may need a quick shower and change after that walk.”

“We’re patient men,” Kai promised, as he held out a hand for me. I didn’t hesitate to slide my hand in his as we walked down the path that led to the farmhouse ahead.

Idon’t know what I expected from Kai and Aiden for a date, but a pottery class wasn’t it.

A chuckle slipped out as I lost control of my clay on the wheel. I wasn’t my brother who basically breathed almost any kind of art that he could get his hands on, but I was having fun.

The teacher came over to help me and I glanced at the others. Aiden’s brow was crinkled as he remained focused, working slowly on his creation.

Kai, on my other side, was all steady, quick movements, somehow creating what looked to be a wavy bowl of some kind.

“You need to keep your hands steady,” the teacher instructed me kindly, the older omega smiling at me. “No worries, it just takes practice.”

She helped guide my hands on the wet clay, encouraging me as I tried to concentrate and figure out how to get this to turn out into anything usable.

After a few minutes, she moved on to someone else struggling in the class and suddenly hints of lime, sea salt, and cedar surrounded me. Hair brushed my shoulder as I felt arms surround me.

“Would you like some help, omega?” Kai husked, warm air teasing my ear as a flush heated my cheeks.

“You need to behave, Kai,” I struggled to get out the words. “We’re in a class.”

“I’m just trying to help,” he said with exaggerated innocence.

“You’re teasing me,” I accused.

He forced himself back a few inches to give space between us, but continued to guide my hands on the clay. With his touch, a little water, and some kind of sacrifice he must have made in secret, the clay started to rise into what looked like a small cup.

I barely registered his words or instructions. My entire world focused on his scent and the feel of his warm hands on mine even with the clay in the mix.

Kai ignored his own sagging piece of clay as he continued to guide me until I had a mug of sorts sitting in front of me. He’d known exactly what tools to use to hollow it out and shape it.

This would absolutely be my favorite from now on.

I’d never have a morning cup of coffee without the reminder of how his chest felt pressing against my back, his presence surrounding me as his voice whispered instructions low and sexy in my ear.
