“We were thinking around the house maybe,” Dean started, leading the way. “But, sadly, we don’t get a ton of sun given the trees around us. Not that we don’t love the shade but lack of sunlight isn’t a bonus for plants.”
“Some plants do well in partial shade,” I told him, looking around their space, lots of ideas already coming to mind. “How much maintenance do you guys want?”
They both looked at each other with pained looks making me laugh.
“Minimal is a fine answer! You just don’t want something that means you need to be out here every day if that’s not what you want,” I told them. “Okay let’s run to Magnolia Nursery— they have the best local plants and the quality is really great. Plus, the owners are always around if you end up with questions about anything.”
“We can take my truck,” Dean piped up. “I already have the bed emptied and lots of room for whatever we get.”
“Perfect!” I grinned at them, beyond excited for a trip to get plants. Maybe I can even get a few for myself as well.
“We should make sure anything we get is animal friendly. You know for when you come over with your cat,” Dean mentioned casually. “We don’t want your pirate cat to get hurt from eating something he’s not supposed to.”
“Pirate cat?” I asked, barely containing my laughter.
“It fits him,” Dean joked, opening the door to the truck for me and helping me up into the cab.
It was a nice older truck that would only fit three people. We all got in and, suddenly, I was very, very aware that my omega self was sitting in between two alphas.
“Earl will probably be happier at the farm,” I admitted. “He’s not like a dog I have to let out several times a day.”
My voice was raspier than usual. Dean gave me a look, his own scent swelling in the space now. When I turned to Jack, he was breathing in deep and looking at me.
“So, windows down?” I squeaked, reaching over the alpha to use the old crank style lever to lower it and let in fresh air.
Jack groaned, the sound pained. It wasn’t until I leaned back to look at him that I realized what I’d done. My hand was right on his lap, and it was growing harder by the second.
“Shit, sorry,” I gasped, leaning back but overcompensating so I was falling back into Dean. His hand went to my waist, keeping me from tipping over. He was closer now, scent stronger. The rich coffee, bitter orange peel, and spicy clove scent was so intense it was hard to breathe, my chest rising and falling in rapid breaths.
“Don’t apologize for giving me a chance to touch my omega,” Dean rumbled happily. “Besides, I doubt that Jack is going to complain about the attention you gave him.”
My cheeks were flaming as I settled back in my seat, eyes trained dead ahead.
Dean rolled his window down, the fresh air finally calming the scents enough that he was able to start the ignition. My body stayed rigid until Jack took my hand in his, wrapping our fingers together as he gazed out the window. He was trying to act casual, which I appreciated, but the goofy smile I could see on his side profile gave him away.
This was fine. Everything was going to be fine.
Thank god Magnolia Nursery was only a five minute drive. Unfortunately, I was trapped in between them both and neither one looked ready to move.
“We could talk about this, omega? We’ve barely spoken about being scent compatible or where we go from here.”
“We could,” I said, not looking at them still. “Or we could shop.”
“Good to see your avoidance tendencies never changed,” Dean laughed as he climbed out.
I ignored him as I walked toward the entrance. The old beta couple that owned the place knew me well, Denise and Rob waved a greeting at me. I saw their eyes catch on the two alphas behind me but I just gave them a teasing smile and led the way through to the greenhouse in back.
“This is one of my favorite stores,” I admitted as I glanced behind me, catching both men staring at my ass.
“Sorry,” Jack said, cheeks flaming. Dean just smirked, completely unrepentant. Two contrasting alphas, both equally as delicious.
“Behave, alphas,” I laughed.
“Okay, where do we start?” Jack asked as he tried to look around as if the answers were growing on the leaves of the plants surrounding us.
“An herb garden,” I said quickly. “And the shade loving plants for the front.” I trailed off as I took in the space before rattling off a few more options.
“Sounds good to me,” Dean said with a shrug. “Lead the way, omega.”
