“I think you ask Kitty out, she's going to laugh.”

He scowls at me but doesn’t try to argue. His only loyalty is to the club. There’s nothing wrong with that, but when you bring the Prez’s baby sister into the mix... fuck. You better be ready to treat her like a queen. Might as well chop off your nuts and hand them over because the second you fuck a woman like Kitty over, you’re a dead man.

The drive to the pickup spot goes smoothly. No cops, no fucking RFR dipshits.

I pull the truck up to the hangar at the old airport. The coffins are stacked in the back under a canvas tarp. I do a quick check of the cargo. Not that I expect Hyde to fuck us. The guys load them into the truck, and I put the bag in the bottom drawer of an old metal desk and lock it. Bitter has the other key.

“Everything there?” I ask Pain.

He lifts his chin, and we make the drive back with our new hardware.

The guys unload and I let Prez know we handled business.

Not that he expects anything less.

“You going out tonight?” He questions before I take off.

“Haven’t given it much thought.”

“Sukie and Kitty are hittin’ the town. Could use an extra set of eyes on them.”

“You worried about some trouble?”

“Anniversary of Mellie’s murder is coming up. Never know how it will hit Kitty. Some years she’s fine. Others…”

I know what he’s not saying. I’ve seen that far-off look in her eyes. She gets this dead expression. Completely zones out.

“Zane usually looked out for her. Didn’t have to worry knowing he had her back even if he is an ass. If I show up, she’ll get pissy and know I’m worried.”

“I can keep an eye on her. She won’t even know I’m doing it.”

“Appreciate it.”

“I’ll keep you posted. Did she say where she was going?”

“No, but I’ve got her location.” He glances at his cell and opens an app. “She’s at Tonky’s.”

“Works for me. I could eat.”

“Heard they put in a mechanical bull.” He grins, and I shake my head.

“You sure you don’t want to go? Be a damn shame to miss seeing Sukie ride.”

His eyes darken. “Maybe I’ll get a beer.”

Yeah. I bet he will. Along with a pretty little pink taco that happens to be between Sukie’s thighs. Tonky’s is part burger joint and mostly bar. On the weekend, they have live music and dancing. Food is damn good too.

Chapter Three

Kitty

“Too much or not enough?” I ask myself as I stare at my reflection in the full-length mirror that’s attached to the back of my bedroom door. I’ve got on a pair of jeans that are a tad too tight. My hair is in a high pony with loose curls and teased up big. I’m blessed and cursed with long and thick locks. I settled on wearing a silken bustier-type top. Pale pink in color. My favorite silver heart locket that my mom bought me for Christmas when I was twelve rests on my chest. It now holds some of her ashes. I'm a silver girl. Silver hoop earrings. Silver bangle bracelets. Silver rings. I stare at my hand where I used to wear my wedding set. In its place is now a pink ice heart shaped ring that my dad bought my mother for Valentine’s Day when they first started dating. I miss her more than I could ever put into words.

We lost her five years ago. She was driving home from work at the mortuary when she suffered a brain aneurysm and veered off the road.

She was dead before her car even left the asphalt. Dad took it hard. We all did, but she was the love of his life.

I don’t know if he will ever move on.
