“Then there’s nothing to stop you from fucking me.”
“I could give you a million reasons why us fucking would be a terrible idea.”
“I’ll be gone in the morning, and it may be the last time we ever see each other.”
“Why? You dying?”
“No.” She laughs and takes another hit, positioning herself to stand between my legs. “It’ll be like old times, but with the kiss goodbye we never had.”
She strokes my jaw, and I’m running out of reasons to say no when she’s looking at me like she’s looking at me.
Chapter Twelve
Kitty
Dread’s been gone a while. “I’m going to go find Dread,” I tell Punky while Knives is in a deep conversation with Walker about some upgrade he’s wanting to make on his bike. He’s not in the bar, and not in the bathroom, nor in our room. Maybe he’s outside.
I slip out the back door and my heart leaps into my throat. He’s out here alright. He’s leaned back on a picnic table with his ex between his legs. He’s gripping the back of her head as it bobs up and down. The sight shatters the last pieces of my heart. I swallow hard and turn to go back inside when I bump into a table, and a bottle falls to the ground and breaks.
“Shit,” I hear him grumble. “Kitty. Wait,” he yells after me.
I dahs back inside and run straight upstairs to the room we’re supposed to be sharing. I’m an idiot. I thought maybe he felt something the other night at the bar.
A minute or two later, he barges into the room. “Fuck. Kitty. I’m sorry.”
“For what?” I swipe at the tears trying to run down my cheeks.
“I didn’t mean for you to see that.”
“So you’re not sorry she was sucking your dick, you’re only sorry you were caught.”
“I make you any promises or say some shit to you I don’t remember saying?”
“What?”
“Babe, you just said I was sorry I got caught implying some shit. I don’t recall us being in a relationship. I’m here to protect you, not to fuck you.”
My gaze snaps up. “What’d you just say to me?”
“I’m sorry. I know you’ve got a lot swimming around in that head of yours, but I’m not Zane and I’m not your man.”
“You’re right. You don’t owe mean anything.” I grab my backpack off the chair.
“Where are you going?”
“I’ll sleep in Knives’ room.”
“Don’t do that.”
“Why? Now you and whoever her name is can use the bed.”
“That’s not...just put your bag down and let’s start this conversation over.”
“I don’t think so.”
“Look, you’ve had a lot to drink, and your emotions are all over the place. Your husband was murdered. I’m trying to be respectful here.”
“To who? Zane and I were over a long time ago. He just forgot to clue me in sooner than he did.”
