“I told you to call me Greg. I prefer to be informal.” He comes closer.

I pull some headache meds from my purse and shake it at him. “I’m sorry, I have to go. Enjoy your coffee.”

I rush from the lounge and down the hall into the family restroom. I flip the lock and pull my phone out from my scrubs.

I dial Reaper, but he doesn’t answer. Then I dial Wrath and Colt.

I growl when none of them answer. I could call Sunny directly, but she will be a mess and never make it here. No, it’s best to send a brother to get her and the kids.

I grind my teeth when I see Hades’ name in my phone. I hate the fucker, but Reaper insisted I take his number in case of emergency.

“Fuck it,” I mutter, pressing his name.

“What?” Hades barks into the phone.

“Well hello to you too. We have a situation.”

“Evelyn? What happened? Are you okay?” He shoots the questions off without giving me a chance to respond.

“Pinky got into an accident. I need someone to go get Sunny and bring her up here. His wallet was missing too. Might want to send someone to the scene and see if they can find it.”

“I’m on it. Is he okay?” he asks.

“He’s breathing, but he isn’t awake. We won’t know until the scans come back.”

He sighs. “Keep me updated.”

He hangs up without a goodbye, making me want to cuss at him, but I don’t. He answered. He’s putting the club first.

As much as I dislike the guy, he’s doing what I need him to, so he gets a pass.

For now, at least.

CHAPTER TWO

Hades

“We need to discuss Dansworth,” Reaper says.

Leaning back in my chair, I study the men around me. Almost all of Reaper’s trusted council is here, with the exception of Pinky, who had a prior obligation and got a pass from church. I have no right listening in on this type of conversation. I’m not a title-holding member. In fact, I should get up and walk away, but Reaper is the one who asked me to sit in on the meeting.

He knows the position I used to hold and values my insight, even though he shouldn’t. Still, his trust means something to me. No one has trusted me since…

Before the memory can grip ahold of me, I shake my head.

“We need a mole in his office,” Honk says.

I can’t help but study the man and notice that he looks sober, his eyes clear.

The man’s wife died unexpectedly, and he went on a long-term bender but recently cleaned up his act since his daughter decided to become an old lady.

Trigger shakes his head. “While I agree, I don’t know how we will make it happen. Everyone we’ve tried to place in there has been removed within days. The insight they have on us…”

“Can we call in help from another chapter?” Kicks, one of the brothers, asks.

Reaper sighs. “We could, but I don’t want to. Not until we have a plan in place. I fucking hate having to lean on others.”

I barely stop myself from nodding because I get it. I’ve been on my own for so long that it almost feels wrong turning toward these men for any sort of help. If they ask me, though, I have no problem jumping up and stepping in.
