“Mav, this is my sister Evelyn. She’s off-limits,” Reaper says.
Mav takes a step back. “Noted. I was just being friendly.”
“Friendly, my ass,” I scoff, making him smile.
“Still so broody,” he teases me.
“You don’t get to decide who I date, Harrison,” Evelyn warns him, making Reaper roll his eyes.
Only she gets away with using his government name.
“What did I miss?” a new voice says as they walk into the room.
I look up and watch as Rebel comes to a stop as he sees me.
“Still weird as fuck,” Rebel murmurs as he shakes it off and walks toward me.
“I take it he and his brother look alike?” Evelyn asks.
Both Mav and Rebel look at me, and I slightly shake my head, silently letting them know that she doesn’t know.
“Something like that,” Mav says after a beat.
I can see the question in his eyes but ignore it.
“Let’s get started,” Reaper says, clapping his hands together.
At once we all walk toward the living room. Evelyn drops into one of the chairs, while Mav takes the other. Colt, Wrath, and Reaper all sit on the couch while Rebel posts up against the wall. Trigger drags over a kitchen stool, and without thinking about it, I sit on the arm of the chair next to Evelyn. Once again, my former brothers eye me curiously.
“Did you guys have any trouble getting here?” Colt asks, breaking the silence.
Rebel shakes his head. “No. The flight wasn’t bad. The only downer is we are stuck in a cage for the foreseeable future.”
“We could have met last night, but we decided to get some rest before jumping in. Knowing what we were walking into, we figured one more night knowing we were good would help keep us focused,” Mav adds.
I can’t help but chuckle. “Yeah, be glad you didn’t drive the whole way. For a while there, it gets flat and plays tricks on your mind.”
“And the apartment is to your liking?” Reaper asks.
Mav nods. “The place is nice. We appreciate you getting us three apartments with multiple rooms. While we don’t need them all now, I know the others will appreciate it when they arrive.”
Others.
Originally Remi only promised two guys, but it sounds like he’s sending more.
I want to ask if my brother will show up, but I keep my mouth shut. I’m not really sure what I want the answer to be.
Evelyn shifts, slightly brushing her body against mine as she drags her legs up into the chair.
“Sorry,” she murmurs.
“All good,” I say quietly.
“Well, I guess we should give you the complete rundown,” Trigger says from his seat.
Rebel frowns as his eyes dart to Evelyn. “Is she staying for this?”
“She stays,” I say harshly before anyone else can.
