“Please do,” Reaper says.
“Speaking of Evelyn, who’s on her right now?” Midnight asks.
“Bullet and Harlee,” I say before Reaper can.
Kicks frowns. “Why is Harlee there?”
Honk scoffs. “Have you met my daughter? She doesn’t want to miss out on anything, not if she can help it. Sitting and keeping an eye on Evelyn is low risk, so I’m sure Bullet didn’t protest her joining.”
“Pretty much,” I confirm.
I thought it was strange she wanted to go with him, but I didn’t question it. Besides, I know how boring it can get being trapped in those four walls. At least together they will have someone to talk to, to kill the time.
“We have a different issue to discuss,” Wrath says.
Reaper nods.
“We need to vote on what to do about runs. With shit going down right now and having so many eyes on us, it’s not safe, but if we don’t, we lose income,” Wrath says.
Reaper sighs as he leans back in his chair.
“I don’t want to stop. The possibilities of burning those bridges we’ve worked so fucking hard to build don’t sit right, but knowingly putting targets on our backs when we know we’re being watched isn’t the smart thing to do,” Reaper mutters.
“We mainly pull security, though. So if we don’t physically have something, they won’t be able to tie it to us,” Colt says.
“Still a risk. If they pull over one of us, we all know the first thing they will do is reach for their radio, calling it in before they get out of the cruiser. The chances for the rest of the convoy getting pulled over increases,” I point out.
Reaper rubs his face. “Let’s all think about it and circle back at the next meeting. Sound good?”
Everyone murmurs in agreement.
A few of the guys speak up on different things, and then the meeting comes to an end.
I don’t even wait for everyone to clear out before I head out the door myself.
I don’t know why, but I have a feeling I need to see Evelyn. Lay eyes on her myself.
Everything is fine. I’m just being paranoid.
Am I, though?
Evelyn
Moving, I walk over to the nurses’ station, and my eyes find Harlee and Bullet. They are sitting close, and something Harlee says makes Bullet tip his head back and laugh. Something about the scene makes my heart clench.
I want that.
For so long, a relationship hasn’t even been on my radar. First, I wanted to graduate and get through all my schooling. Then it was my residency. Now though, outside of working crazy hours, I don’t really have a reason not to look for a partner. Someone who I can come home to, to hold me when I’ve had a bad day, and just be with.
Kind of like what Hades did for me the night Lemon got hurt. Only you know, preferably with sex involved.
“You okay?” Beverly asks.
“I’m good. What do you have for me?” I ask, pushing thoughts about my personal life to the side.
“There is…” Before she can continue, she’s cut off.
“Dr. Kingston, could I steal you for a moment?”
