“Remi, he tricked me. I thought he was you.” Becky tries to cuddle up next to him, but he pushes her away.
“I’m not a fucking idiot. You aren’t going to convince me that Hades brought you to his room and pretended to be me asking you to call out his fucking name. I heard you, Becky. It’s over. Pack your shit and get out of my sight. If I see you again, I’m putting a bullet in your head.”
She gasps, but Remington isn’t playing right now. He’s the fierce, ruthless president of the Chicago chapter of the Lotus MC.
She scurries out of the room, smart enough to heed his warning.
“What about me, brother? You putting a bullet in my head?” I ask, knowing I would take it willingly.
“I don’t want to see your fucking face, but as luck would have it, I don’t have a choice. I will never trust you again, though. You are hereby stripped of your title of vice president. You are no longer part of the Chicago chapter. You are now a nomad. You have an hour to pack your shit and go,” he says, his emotions disappearing as he lets his walls solidify in front of me.
I nod once, pulling off my cut. It takes me a minute to use my pocketknife to pry the vice president and Chicago patch from my vest. When I finally do, I go to hand them to Remi, but he turns his head.
Maverick steps forward instead. “I’ll take those.”
I nod, hating the look on his face.
Remi and Big Dog leave the room, Maverick staying behind to escort me out.
I don’t take the hour allotted. It takes me less than twenty minutes to pack the things I want to take.
Turning to Maverick, I nod once. “Take care of him for me.”
He grimaces. “There had to be another way.”
I shake my head. “He was never going to see her as anything but his girl. He had to see it for himself.”
“You broke his heart.”
“He will find another woman,” I tell him.
“Yeah, but he won’t find another brother.”
I ignore his words. “Be safe.”
Without another look back, I head out of the only place I have ever called home.
I don’t know where the road will take me, but I know I will never settle down.
This is the life I chose.
CHAPTER ONE
Hades
“You’re here early. Jericho is finishing up with another client,” Emily, the receptionist, says as soon as I walk through the door.
“No worries. Is Midnight here?”
“He’s in the office.”
“Let Jericho know where to find me then,” I say as I make my way toward the office.
Knocking on the door, I smile when Midnight mutters before calling out for me to come in.
“Being a business owner isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, huh?” I joke.
“Gotta keep my girls fed. They are growing after all.”
