Of course Hades is going to be here all night. I rub my forehead, my head beginning to ache.

“His scans are clear. We are keeping him for observation, but he should be able to go home at some point tomorrow. Sunny went home to be with the kids. Pinky insisted. Bullet is in there now with him,” I tell him.

“Good. I’m going to go relieve him, but will you come see me in a few minutes? I’d like to go over some things with you.”

I hesitate before I nod. “Sure.”

I watch as he walks away, hating that I can’t take my eyes off of him. Hades is a gorgeous man. I won’t lie and say he doesn’t intrigue me by looks alone. It’s when he opens his mouth that I have the issue. He’s arrogant as hell. He thinks he’s God’s gift to man. I blame it on him being a nomad for so long. He forgot how to be around other people.

Shaking off my thoughts of him, I go to the nurses’ station.

“I thought you were taking a nap?” Beverly says.

“Pembrooke is in the on-call room.”

She grimaces. “Shouldn’t he be at home? He has no reason to be here this late.”

“You’re telling me. Tell Travis that he needs to go nap in there to keep up with my lie, please.”

She laughs. “On it. I’ll page him now. When are you going to get to nap?”

I shrug. “Whenever he leaves or I get home. Whichever comes first. I need to check on the patient in Room 409. I’ll be back.”

“A gorgeous man just walked in there. Flirt with him for me, will you? I’m too married to do it for myself.”

I shake my head, ignoring her request as I make it to the room.

“Hey, Bullet. You look tired,” I say, walking over to check Pinky’s vitals.

“It’s been a long day. He’s finally sleeping. The nurse gave him some meds a little bit ago.” Bullet stands and stretches.

“Harlee waiting for you?” I ask.

“Like that woman waits for anyone. She’s at the clubhouse with Tara and Natalie. I gotta go grab her on my way home.”

I laugh. “Tell them I said hello, and I want in on the next girls’ night.”

“Will do. Catch you later, Hades,” he says to the man in the corner that I’ve been ignoring.

Hades doesn’t respond as Bullet leaves the room.

I go through the motions of checking everything until I finally give Hades my attention.

“What is it you wanted to talk about?” I finally ask.

“You’re exhausted. Why aren’t you sleeping right now?”

I scoff. “Because some asshole demanded I come see him. Remember?”

He narrows his eyes. “So if I tell you to go find a cot in the on-call room right now, you would go?”

“No. I’m not a fucking dog. You don’t get to tell me what to do.”

“Princess…” He uses that goddamn nickname I hate.

“Don’t even start. I’m not your responsibility.”

He points to the chair that I had brought in for Bullet. It is a recliner with a blanket. It looks so tempting, but I couldn’t possibly.
