He waves me off. “As if you have time for me now that you have that hunk of a man. You said there are two of them. You think his brother might be interested?”

I shrug. “You’d have to go to Chicago to find out. He’s not going to move here.”

It’s sad, but true. There is no place for Remi here with Reaper being president, and a man like him isn’t giving up his position in the club for a move. Even if it is to be closer to his brother.

I don’t blame him, though. Hades isn’t willing to leave here for Chicago either. Even after I offered to go with him.

We walk out of the lounge, and I smile when I see Preston.

“Did you match here?” I ask him.

He nods. “I did. Marie matched in Florida somewhere. I think she was ready for a change.”

I nod, knowing what he means. Marie took it hard when she found out everything that happened. She blamed herself for not checking the medication. It doesn’t matter that we don’t blame her. She blames herself.

“We are glad you decided to stay. I think you can really excel here. We have a lot to teach you.” I clap his shoulder.

“Yeah, like how to run a board. You going to show us, Dr. Attending?” Travis teases.

“I sure will. First to clear the board wins. Loser buys dinner?” I ask.

“Only if dinner is from that steak place down the street,” Travis taunts.

“Deal. I’m not scared to spend a little cash.”

As we get working, I let everything fade into the back of my mind. It’s not until I walk into the next room that I pause.

“What are you doing here?” I ask.

“Well, my girl is now an attending, and I didn’t hear it from her. Should I be worried Travis is willing to text me during work, but not you?”

I roll my eyes at Hades. “Travis wants to fuck your brother, so maybe you should be concerned that he is so close to you.”

He shrugs. “He can think about fucking me all he wants. I don’t mind.”

“You are incorrigible. Really, what are you doing here?” I ask.

He holds out his hand, showing me a small gash.

“What did you do?” I hiss, moving to grab supplies to clean it up and stitch it.

“I was working on the house. The cabinet started to fall, and I made the mistake of catching it. It hurts like a motherfucker.”

I sigh, rubbing my eyes before I go to wash my hands. Once I’m gloved up, I return to him. “Do you have your tetanus shot?”

He gives me a funny look. I shake my head.

“Press the call button,” I demand.

He does as I say.

“How can I help you?” Beverly’s voice comes over the intercom.

“I need a tetanus shot for this patient, please, Bev. Thanks,” I call out.

“Yes, ma’am.”

After she’s off the line, I continue my work.
