“No, and he doesn’t need to.”

I don’t disagree. Trigger is doing me a solid by watching Evelyn. I’m not about to piss him off.

“Hades? We need you,” Reaper calls out.

I leave Trigger to monitor everything and go to find Reaper.

“What’s going on?” I ask.

He shakes his head. “They pulled Midnight from his shop. They didn’t even lock up. He said he’s been teaching you what to do. Can you go sit on it until we get him back?”

“Of course. I want to be here when Evelyn gets back, though,” I tell him.

“Jericho will be there soon. He had a meeting, and Elle isn’t answering her phone. Lainey is there with the girls, but we don’t want that.”

“I’m on my way.”

Heading outside, I hop on my bike and make the ride to Dynasty. When I arrive, I knock on the locked door. Lainey comes and unlocks it for me.

“I’m sorry they called you. I’m not sure how to handle the new accounting software. I tried to close out today, and it gave me an error. The girls are scared. This isn’t the first time they have seen Midnight get arrested, but they were extra rough.”

“Lainey, take a deep breath.” I wait until she does to continue. “Midnight switched systems two months ago. He taught me how to do it, so no worries. All this stress isn’t good for the baby.”

“I know, but I can’t help it.”

I shake my head. “How about you come watch me so you know what to do?”

“I would like that.”

She follows me as I head to Midnight’s office. Inside, I find Selena and Sienna sitting on the couch.

“Hey girls. You okay?”

They both look at me solemnly but nod.

“Your dad is going to be fine. Don’t stress out. Okay?”

“They slammed him on the desk,” Sienna whispers.

I kneel in front of them. “Someone is always going to have a problem with us. We are bikers. We have tattoos. We skirt the law when it means protecting those we love. They don’t like that. Right now there is a really bad man who hates that even more. He is making things hard, but it won’t be like this for long. Uncle Reaper is going to fix it all. I promise.”

They both nod before going back to what looks to be homework.

I stand and make my way to the desk.

“Thank you,” Lainey whispers. “They don’t always believe me when I say it.”

“I’m not sure they believe me either, but I hope it helps.”

It takes an hour and a half to teach Lainey the system. I’m sure it would have taken less time if I hadn’t also been referencing the notes Midnight gave me every two minutes. Once we are done, I walk Lainey to her car.

“I’ll escort you to the clubhouse to wait. If I get stopped, you keep going and don’t stop until you are in those gates.”

“I will. Thank you.”

She starts to drive, and I follow. I curse when not five minutes into the drive, I see familiar lights. I pull over, glad when Lainey seems to speed up.

The officer walks up to me, surprising me that he doesn’t ask me to get off the bike.
