She blows out a slow breath, and I can tell that she thinks about it, really thinks about it.

“Yes and no. Yes, I miss helping people, but no, because I didn’t realize how stressed I was. I almost feel like the daily weight has been lifted off my shoulders. If that makes sense.”

“Nah, it does. It’s a high-pressure job. Do you think if your license is reinstated you’ll go back?”

“I do. It’s who I am, and I really don’t know who I am outside of being a doctor.”

“This could be a good time to find out. You could get out of emergency medicine and run a clinic. Or start your own private practice.”

She hums. “That’s not a bad idea. I should probably start working through my TBR that Tara just keeps adding to.”

“What the hell is that?”

Evelyn smirks. “A TBR is a to-be-read list. You know Tara owns a bookstore, right?”

“Yes…”

“Well, anytime she gets a new book in, she reads it. If she loves it, she recommends it to us.”

My eyes narrow. “What kind of books are we talking about?”

A devious smile crosses her face. “The dirty kind, of course. The smuttier the better.”

My blood heats at her words.

Well, I’ll be damned.

“You like reading about sex?”

“From time to time. A girl’s got needs,” she quips.

“Well, if you need help with those needs, I’d be more than willing to help you out.”

Evelyn tips her head back and laughs, her whole body shaking.

Evelyn

“Of course you would.”

I smile so hard my cheeks hurt.

“I’m your guy.”

He is my guy. I want to ask him if he would eat me out while I read aloud, something I know Tara and Wrath are into, but that might be a little weird.

Maybe another time.

“How did we start talking about this?”

He smirks. “You’re the one who said she likes to read dirty books. Not me. I mean, shit, I’m just learning all sorts of things about you today.”

“This feels very one-sided,” I joke.

He scoffs. “You found out I used to watch Hallmark. How is that one-sided?”

“That’s only one thing compared to my two,” I quip.

He takes our empty containers and puts them in the bag before turning back to me. “Okay, shoot. What do you want to know?”
