“Are you sure?” Hades asks.
“Fucking positive. I know better than to drive like that. Especially with he who shall not be named on the anti-biker agenda. We’ve got targets on our back and can’t afford to be careless.”
I look over at Hades and see that he’s frowning before I turn back to Pinky. “So it was intentional.”
Pinky nods. “Damn right. No questions about it. I’m fucking pissed the camera on my bike isn’t working right now, otherwise, I would have had it all on tape.”
“What about your wallet? Did you have it with you?” Hades asks.
“Of course I had my wallet on me. In fact, I know I did. I had to pull my insurance card out at my appointment. I keep it in my back pocket, and it’s attached to a chain that is connected to my belt. It should be in the hospital bag with all my other shit.”
“It’s not there. The only reason the hospital knew who to call was because of your cut. They couldn’t find your ID.”
“Bullshit,” Pinky swears.
I walk over to the white bag in the corner and open it up. I shuffle through, and when I don’t see it, I shake my head.
“It’s not here. They didn’t miss it,” I tell him.
“Fuck, someone must have taken it!” Pinky says.
I eye the monitor and watch as his heart rate and blood pressure rise in real time.
“You need to calm down or they will keep you here longer under evaluation. They are already keeping you overnight as it is,” I tell him.
“My wallet had all my cards. Cash. Everything important,” he mutters.
“I’ll text Trigger and have him work on suspending all of your cards and put a hold on your credit. There’s nothing we can do about the cash, though,” Hades says, pulling out his phone.
Pinky turns toward me. “You said you worked on the guy. Do you think you can go look through his shit and see if he has it?”
I shake my head. “I watched as they removed all of his belongings. It wasn’t there. If I have to guess, it’s either in his car or someone else on the scene took it.”
Pinky tips his head back. “Fuck. This is a goddamn nightmare.”
“Do you want to tell me what the doctor’s appointment was about? Do I need to contact your primary?” I ask, trying to change the subject.
“It was just routine shit. There is a history of diabetes in my family, so I make sure to stay on top of that shit. My A1C was where it needed to be, so I’m good.”
“That’s positive.” I smile.
“Okay, Trigger is working on putting a hold on all your shit. So, whoever has your wallet won’t be able to use any of your cards. He’s also sending Colt over to scan the area to look for it,” Hades says.
“Thank you,” Pinky says.
I can’t help but stare at Hades. I think this is the most I’ve ever seen him talk. Well, talk and be nice at the same time. It’s refreshing, and it’s almost like he’s human.
He looks over at me and frowns. “Why are you staring at me like that?”
“Nothing,” I lie.
My pager buzzes, and I offer them a smile. “If you’ll excuse me. Pinky, if you need anything, just page for your doctor. Travis will come to you, or he will let me know and I will.”
“Thanks, Evelyn,” he says.
“Always.”
I slip out of the room and run into Marie, making her stumble back. “Sorry about that. Are you okay?”
