"Paul! This is—" What could I say? This was exactly what it looked like, and no excuse could protect Gema’s reputation if Paul said anything.

"Good morning, Dr. Cross," Paul said, undeterred. "Lettie thought you two might be hungry."

The way he said it was so earnest and kind. Gema peeked her head out of the blanket.

"Tell Lettie I’ll find her later. I have a few words for her, but could you be a dear and set those on the coffee table and give us some privacy?"

Something clicked in Paul’s mind as his eyes widened. "Yes, of course," he said, averting his gaze. "Enjoy each other, I mean—enjoy your food."

He ran out so fast, I had to get up to close the door behind him. I was in such a hurry, I hadn’t bothered to wrap anything around me. Gema caught sight of my bare body and smiled lazily.

"What is that smile about?" I asked.

"Just thinking… how could anyone think you are a white man when you’re hung like that."

I pulled her onto my lap, feeling myself getting hard at the contact. My mind cleared when I heard pots banging in the kitchen. Never had Lettie been so loud doing the dishes.

Gema snickered. "Is she trying to tell us something?"

I kissed the corner of her mouth. "Maybe we should put a pause on this and eat something."

She reached between us, grabbing my cock. I inhaled sharply. "I’m not hungry for food," she whispered.

With great effort, I set her back on the bed beside me. "We should talk first."

Gema pushed herself away, sliding onto the floor to rest her hands on my knees. "About what?" she asked with her wide deep brown eyes.

I sucked in a breath. The way she was looking up at me—I realized I’d never get tired of it. Gema was stuck with me; she just didn’t know it yet. "About baby prevention. I did not ask about your diaphragm."

Her hand closed around my cock, and I gasped.

"I don’t have one," she said.

"I should have grabbed a rubber. As much as I love whatever is happening between us, we should be more cautious. I never want a baby to be the reason you choose to stay with me."

Her hand began to rub me from base to tip, her eyes never leaving mine. "That is very sweet of you, but I have an IUD. I have contraception covered," she said, lapping at my tip with her tongue.

"A what?" I asked leaning back on my hands as my vision blurred. "What is and IUD?"

She paused. I could have cursed, my dick was crying out from the loss of contact.

"It is new technology," she said quickly. "It hasn’t made it down here yet, but it prevents pregnancy."

"Are you sure?" I asked, though if she wasn’t, I’m not certain I’d have the will power to tell her to stop.

She nodded. "I’m sure."

"Okay," I breathed. "You don’t have to—" She claimed me with her mouth again, her perfect lips providing the most exquisite tension.

Whatever I had meant to say was lost.

We agreed not to say anything to Lettie, and to go about our day like normal. Every time she attempted to pry into what was happening, we’d exchange bewildered looks until Lettie stormed out of the house.

"Maybe we went too far?" Gema said.

"She’ll be fine."

Gema met my gaze, and something crossed her face. Whether it was doubt or fear, I wanted to take it away.
