So, this is what having your heart broken feels like.
Zero stars. Would not recommend.
It took all my willpower, but I didn’t drive by her house as I drove through the neighborhood.
You could’ve knocked me over with a feather when I pulled into the driveway and saw her sitting on my front steps in a pair of black running shorts, white tank top, and light blue running shoes. Her hair was pulled up high in a pony tail, and she wasn’t wearing any makeup.
The crease between her brows lessened when she noticed the garage door go up, but her expression was still somber when she stood to walk toward the driveway as I pulled in.
She was standing at the back of the Jeep when I got out and before I could even invite her in, she blurted out, “I’m not dating Jonathan.”
Well, shit. That changes everything.

Rob and Katelyn had been snotty to me the entire time they were at the bakery helping set up for the reception.
On one hand, I appreciated they were good friends to Justin and thought they were defending his honor. On the other hand, I hadn’t done anything to warrant their snottiness.
I finally just announced to everyone there that I was not seeing Jonathan again, so not to believe it if they heard it.
But then Katelyn smugly asked, “So what’s going on with you and Justin?”
I shrugged and said, “We’ve gone to dinner a few times.”
Rob replied, “That’s it?”
“What more do you want?”
“I want to know that you’re not going to break my friend’s heart.”
“Your friend is a big boy. I don’t think he needs you to fight his battles.”
He countered with, “My friend is a good guy who I don’t want to see get hurt.”
“Who’s to say I’m not the one who gets hurt?”
The fucker snorted—snorted. “Yeah, that’ll be the day.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
Before he could retort, Lainey, who’d obviously been listening to our exchange, stepped between us.
“I thought for sure we had enough chairs! Rob, can you and Katelyn get some from the storage room? I’ll show you where it’s at.”
The two followed Lainey out of the bakery, and Brian walked over to hug me.
“He’s an idiot.” Brian looked over at Teresa and Hugh and muttered, “No offense.”
Teresa smiled. “He’s good to Katelyn, so we give him a lot of latitude. But I know he can be abrasive. He thinks he’s protecting his friend, but sometimes he can’t see the forest for the trees. I was hoping Katelyn would rub off on him, but I fear it’s been the other way around.”
“Maybe if they get married, they’ll mellow out.” Hugh chimed in. “Or maybe they just need to break up. The jury’s still out.”
“I’m sorry he was rude,” Teresa continued.
“It’s fine.”
