Detachment gone, the hazy fog of shock gone.
‘I’m gonna go shower,’ he says decisively. ‘Then we plan.’
‘Good. We can do this.’
‘We can,’ Savannah agrees. ‘I know it. May I ask a favour?’
‘Sure.’
‘I would like to see Roman,’ she says, as Lachlan leaves the council room to go and finally wash off all the dead blood he’s covered in.
‘Why?’
‘To reach success we must first walk through our own failures. He died for me. I would like to see him.’
‘Uh, fine,’ Riley grants, a little distracted. ‘Just be careful.’
‘I will come too?’ Vasily offers.
Savannah smiles sweetly. ‘No, thank you. I will see him alone and then when I return, we will reset the energy of this loss.’
That weird feeling pulls inside Riley again.
She’s not lying, nothing she’s said has been anything but truth and yet… there’s something off.
But Riley is in no state of mind to give it time or attention right now.
They can bring Kade back.
His brother.
He can make this right.
For now, that’s all that matters.
Not the growing connection between him and Vasily.
Not Lachlan’s very sharp teeth.
Not Blaire’s warning.
Not Lee’s objection.
Not the fresh rain he hears pouring.
The Tower was hit, but it didn’t fall.
And somewhere in the city, the impossible awaits discovery.
One chance.
That’s all Riley needs.
He’s not going to waste it.
Not this time around.
