The door to our study isn't completely closed. Warren pushes it open slowly and silently. And what we see is not what we expect.

A figure in an ill-fitting suit, with heavy-soled boots, seems to be whimpering quietly to herself as she twirls around the room in some sort of panic pattern.

But the cap she's wearing has our insignia on it—an eagle. Is this the new chauffeur our PA hired?

We stand there watching her, going from bookshelf to desk to cabinet, making those funny sounds again as she murmurs, "Get it together, Lucy."

Lucy.

Again, Peter, Warren, and I exchange looks while we wait for her to notice us there. She takes about twenty more seconds before she does, and then, jumping in such shock, she somehow manages to remove the cap, and hair the color of night, tumbles down over her shoulders. Her tresses are so long they'd reach her waist if they could see behind her.

Mesmerizing dark eyes, fringed with impossibly long lashes, widen in surprise as she stares at us now. She has makeup on her face that looks as if she tried to create stubble, but there's no denying her pink lips, full and lush, look as soft as they would feel.

Blood rushes to my cock in a heartbeat, and I can't help but grin. That hasn't happened to me ever. I'm always in control of my body. But I can say the same thing happened to Peter and Warren, and they're also wondering how an impostor in our study, with glossy black hair and eyes with the pull of the ocean at night, can upset years of strict control.

"Oh, hi," she says, trying to recover, then seems to remember she's impersonating a man, changes her voice a little deeper, then realizes her cap had fallen off, bends to pick it up, and then fully accepts she can no longer continue with the charade.

"And who are you?" Warren asks as we stand next to each other now, hands in our suit pockets, blocking her exit should she try to make one.

"Okay," she says, taking a breath and using her hands as a gesture to let it out again. "My name is Lucy Applegate. My brother, Dean Applegate, just got a job as your new chauffeur, and he was so thrilled, and so was I, and we celebrated, and I ate way too much cheesecake, but then Dean... well, he had an accident."

So she's the new hire's sister. Very interesting.

"What kind of an accident?" I ask.

"Well... an unfortunate one."

"Explain," Peter says in his dominant voice.

"Umm... so... I hugged him, and he fell over and knocked his head on the coffee table, which he had to get stitches for, and sprained his wrist, which meant he couldn't drive. But he was so excited for this job and so grateful, and he was worried he was going to lose it if he didn't show up, and since it was my fault, I decided to help him, and here I am."

I really wanted to laugh. She hugged her brother into a concussion. What does she do to her enemies?

"Help him by impersonating him?" Warren asks.

"I wanted you to believe that he would show up for his job. At any cost," she says softly.

"And you were in our study? Why?" Peter asks, always the interrogator.

"Oh, I wanted to show you that I'm here, reporting for duty, and I wanted to escort you myself to the limo. One thing about the Applegates, we believe in top-notch service."

"Is that so?" I ask with a grin.

"That is so 1000%," she enthuses.

If her story weren't so far-fetched, it wouldn't be true. Also, we could easily fact-check her, and she knows that. So what are we going to do with Ms. Applegate?

Also, our instinct is telling us she isn't telling us quite the whole truth. So what are these Applegates up to? We have plenty of time to find out, just not right now.

We have an important dinner tonight with the rather eccentric Boran Tolaj, who is also the head of the Albanian mafia. We have a land issue to discuss. We don't plan on walking away without the land, and we always get what we want.

"Where is Ms. Raj?" Warren asks.

"Ms. Who?"

"Genevieve Raj. Your brother's instructions were to collect her from her penthouse."

She scrunches her eyes closed tight and grimaces hard, which only makes her look cuter.
