The orgasm ripped through me in long, violent pulses while I sobbed his name. My body arched off his lap, my vision whited out, but he kept the same steady rhythm, dragging every aftershock higher until I was desperate all over again, and then he ordered me to come again, and the second orgasm slammed into the first. This one was deeper, painful in its intensity, and my muscles clamped down so tight I could feel every fucking knuckle. I clung to his shoulders and rode it out while he murmured low praise against my ear.

When the last tremors faded, he eased his fingers free and pressed them into my mouth without a word — and I cleaned them while meeting his gaze, tasting myself, still trembling and completely wrecked.

Then he simply held me.

One big hand stroked down my spine and made me feel cherished while the other stayed wrapped around my waist, anchoring me. I could feel his heartbeat under my cheek, solid and fucking real.

“I missed you,” he said quietly. “Every motherfucking day, I worried about you constantly. Were you still alive? Was someone torturing you? Were you being careful? I waited for your livestreams every morning, and breathed out in relief when they popped up.”

He exhaled hard. “I’m so glad you survived it and you’re still here. Still you.”

I turned my face into his neck and breathed him in. The khaki and the button-down still felt wrong, but the arms and the voice were unmistakably him. For the first time in five weeks, my body finally believed I was safe.

But then I started worrying. Why had he fingered me to orgasm? Why hadn’t he fucked me?

Chapter 4

Magnum

This hadn’t been how I’d wanted to get started. I’d wanted to catch up with her, see how she’s doing, talk to her about how Mason is doing — let her know how damned important her work was and is.

I couldn’t take her home just yet, but another month or two, maybe three, and I should be able to. We needed to talk logistics, though, and not just fall into bed together. I wanted her to agree to be mine, for good, before I fucked her again. I had a Master Vampire who’d tentatively agreed to help me tell Storm my secret when I got her back to Birmingham, but the vampire would only consider doing so once Storm had sold her house and moved in with me.

Because the time away from her, plus watching how she works from a distance, seeing how she lays things out for her audience, told me she’s going to be royally pissed when she finds out about the supernatural and realizes I had this huge secret I hadn’t shared from the start.

The truth is, telling someone with a massive audience is usually forbidden, even if they’re your true love. It was possible that, without the club’s connections to the Master Vampire of Alabama, I’d have never been allowed to tell her, but she was willing to take the risk — assuming she was convinced this was forever, between me and my Stormy girl.

And okay, maybe refusing to fuck her until she agreed to move in with me was the wrong call. In truth, I was playing that one by ear, but it was a possibility.

And if I’m honest, the second she’d opened the door, the ever-so-light whiff of her rosemary-peppermint shampoo had gone straight to both my dick and my heartstrings. Fuck, but that scent does me in, every time.

“I want you to be mine, for good,” I told her, and I hadn’t planned to say that right off the bat, but she’d admitted she can’t orgasm without me seconds after I cleared her door.

“Maybe I can’t take you home right now, but another month or two, we should be able to move you in.” I looked around at her furniture, her shelves, and met her gaze again. “My mancave stays as is, but you can bring your furniture for the living room, and we can discuss the other rooms. I like my kitchen table, but I’m not opposed to losing my dining room table.”

She shook her head. “How long are you here? How much time do we have now?”

“The plane that flew me up is still sitting at the airport. I need to let the pilot know whether to wait for me to return, or when to come back and get me.” I smiled. “How long do you want me?”

Her eyes went big, and she said, “As long as you want to stay. I’m in New York tomorrow, but you can come with me. I have another round with the big news organizations, going from studio to studio for interviews, sitting on panels, even helping to host an hour-long show. Kind of a big deal. I get tons of new followers and subscribers every time I show up on TV.”

“It’s important work,” I told her. “You have valuable news to share, so yes, growing your audience is essential. Are you traveling with security?”

She shook her head, so I told her, “With the blond hair and a few minor face changes, I’ll go with you as your security.”

Another headshake. “When Ember and Sloan were with me, they had to show security credentials to go in with me.”

“My family owns a security company. Not quite as big as Drake, but they handle a lot of Hollywood, where Drake primarily handles politicians. I can get credentials under another name.”

She tilted her head ever-so-slightly, and I could almost see the wheels turning. “You didn’t go into the family business?”

“Kind of? I mean, I went into cyber-security instead of the physical kind. I can’t be credentialed under my name with the whole felon thing, but I know enough about the business to make an ID that’ll hold.”

She shifted her weight. “So here’s the thing. I really need to get back to my computer. I’m doing an online interview in about an hour, and I have some prep to do beforehand. I’m beyond thrilled you’re here, and I hate to—”

I put my finger over her lips to make her stop talking, and I told her, “I’ll bring my bags in from the rental car, and you can show me how your alarm system works, get me onto your Wi-Fi, and then you can get back to work. I’ll look through your kitchen and come up with something to cook for our dinner, plus I have some work I can do on my laptop. I’ll make chili or spaghetti, something that can simmer until you’re ready to eat. When you’re done for the day, we’ll talk.”

She also showed me her bedroom, told me to make myself at home, and then went into her office and closed her door.
