“Do you want to talk about what happened? I’m here to listen, Angel.”
She sighs softly, her breath fanning over my chest.
“I asked to use the bathroom and Samantha took me. He apparently got naked while we were in there. He was going to rape me, Jett. I couldn’t allow that to happen. I had the knife you got me but I couldn’t get to it with them both in the room. So, I asked them to let me use the restroom. That’s when I killed her. I don’t know if you really want to hear what happened with him.”
If I’m honest with myself, I don’t know if I want to hear it. Yet, I need her to get out so I’ll listen to every detail even if it makes me fucking sick. This isn’t about me, it’s about her. More than anyone I know, keeping shit bottled up is a road that leads to destruction.
“Tell me, Angel. Get it all out.”
“I was taking too long so he came up to the bathroom and found her dead. He tried to convince me that he wasn’t going to hurt me and that I didn’t have to have sex with him if I didn’t want to. I knew it was because he was naked and unarmed and I had a knife in my hand. When he realized I wasn’t buying it, he lunged for me and tried to get the knife from me. I stabbed him everywhere I could get to as he kept yelling at me telling me what a fat whore I am. I couldn’t let him rape me, Jett. Not again.”
Her last sentence nearly breaks me. I hate that this is even part of her story. It’s something I know all too well. It changes you and I don’t think you ever truly recover from it. I know I didn’t.
“I’m glad you survived, Angel. I’m so fucking proud of you for doing what you needed to. I know you must have been terrified. You’re safe now. He is gone and he’ll never be able to touch you again.”
She’s quiet for a few minutes before she speaks again and nearly makes my head explode.
“I didn’t care if they killed me but I was so scared that you’d come home and they’d kill you. That’s what kept me going. I couldn’t let anything happen to you.”

Chapter Sixty-Two
MIA
Glancing up to his face, I see him practically seething with rage as he clenches his jaw. I lift my arm and press my hand to his face as he glares at me and softens from my touch.
“I wasn’t trying to upset you.”
He covers my hand with his, closes his eyes and takes a deep breath. When he speaks, I can hear the pain in his voice.
“Do you know what my life is worth without you, Angel? If you think I would have survived losing you, I wouldn’t have. I wouldn’t want to. I would’ve done what I planned to do after your accident when I thought you were going to die.”
Jett blinks his eyes open and clearly sees from my expression that I don’t have a clue what he’s talking about.
“I was going to inject a shit ton of heroin into my veins to be sure I’d die of an overdose. I didn’t want to live without you then and I don’t now, either. I’d rather be dead than to spend a single day without you.”
He strokes his fingers down my back.
“That’s not healthy. It sounds more like a sickness.” I know I am pointing out the obvious.
Jett chuckles loudly.
“You are my sickness, Angel. I don’t want to get well. If there were a cure, I’d refuse it.”
His eyes drop to my lips. He darts his tongue out and licks his own lips, looking so fucking tempting.
“I can’t wait for you to heal so I can kiss you.”
It could take weeks to heal completely and I’m not willing to wait that long. I turn in his lap so I’m straddling him and he groans something about me not being fair.
“Do it gently. Kiss me, Jett.”
He doesn’t and I know he doesn’t want to hurt me but I need to feel connected to him at least a little. I place my hands on either side of his face and lift up so I can reach him before pressing my lips to his, softly. I feel him grow underneath me but he doesn’t react but I do. Reaching down, I move his cock so it’s at the right angle and lower myself onto him.
“Fucking hell, Mia. You were just attacked.”
Laying my head on his shoulder, I sit still feeling completely content.
