She loops her arm in mine as we walk toward an impatiently waiting Jagger.

”A hot groupie. If Jett doesn’t get his head out of his ass, Jake would gladly take you for a ride.”

”Gross, Kins. Gross.” I say in response before feigning a gagging sound.

Jake is good looking, they all are, but I’m not the kind of girl to make my way through a band. I won’t admit out loud that I’m hoping for a miracle with Jett.

Chapter Twenty-Three

MIA

“Are you sure you wouldn’t prefer to wait until he’s already awake? I expect him to be verbally abusive when he wakes up. If he were pleasant, it would be rather surprising.” The doctor says to Jagger. He stands beside Jett’s bed and waves for McKinley and I to move back. Jett’s wrists are restrained as well as his legs, and a thick strap is over his chest. I don’t think he needs to worry about Jett hurting anyone, but we move back anyway.

The doctor nods slowly.

”Alright. He should wake up shortly but he’ll likely be in and out of it for a while.”

We wait and stare as he sleeps. His leg still twitches occasionally but not nearly as much as a few days ago and his skin looks much better. His complexion is darker, looking much closer to normal. I hold my breath as his eyelashes flutter slightly.

“Angel,” he says in a quiet voice, and it fills me with hope I know I shouldn’t have. Kins turns to me with a knowing smile. I don’t have to tell her my heart is pounding from hearing that one word from him again. It doesn’t last long because he opens his eyes with a tortured moan, and the doctor was right. He’s angry, like an animal trapped in a cage.

Pulling on his wrist restraints, he growls with fury.

”Get these off me. Before I kill everyone in this fucking room.”

The doctor, whose name I still don’t know, walks over to the bed and Jagger moves to the side to let him by.

”How are you feeling, Jett?”

”Fucking pissed. What the hell is this?”

He nods as if he understands and gives him a reassuring smile before explaining everything to him.

”You overdosed again. If you don’t get sober, you’re going to die. You seem to think you have nine lives, but I assure you, you don’t.”

The confusion on his face is evident.

”I overdosed?”

His doctor continues, “Yes. Your friends and your girlfriend found you on the floor. We administered Rapid Detox Under Sedation to get you clean. The rest is up to you.”

Jett's eyes widen as he stares at the poor man with pure aggression.

“You’re fired, dickbag.”

Jagger places his hand on his arm.

“Stop being an asshole. We’re here because we care about you. Jake, Hendrix, Me, McKinley and Mia, we all fucking care.”

His eyes widen as he glances at everyone in the room, and then his gaze lands on mine.

“Angel, you’re not supposed to be here. Jag, get her out of here.” He pleads, sounding tortured.

“No,” Jagger says in a flat no nonsense tone, “It’s time you learn to face shit. You have been running from your feelings for your entire life. Look where it got you. They had to put you to sleep for three fucking days to get you off drugs. Now, what are you going to do? Face your goddamn fears? Or pussy out and die?”

Jett clenches his jaw and squeezes his eyes tight.
