I’m free.

Well, freer than I was.

After doing a subtle makeup look with a nude lip, I grab my handbag and knock on Suit’s door, but there’s no reply, so I head downstairs and check the bar.

“Have you seen Suit?” I ask Rift, who is sitting at the bar glancing at his phone. He’s the new prospect, and I haven’t really spoken to him much. He looks young, with silky black hair and stunning light blue eyes.

“He’s in church,” he replies, quickly standing up. “Can I get you something?”

“No, but thank you,” I say, sitting down next to him. “How are you liking being a prospect?”

He smirks. “It will be worth it in the end.”

“That’s the spirit,” I mutter, and he laughs.

“I have a place to stay, food on the table, and a new family, so I can’t complain,” he murmurs, his expression sobering for a second.

I’m about to reply when Suit, Angel, Blade, War, and Prez step into the room.

And what a sight it is.

Suit is dressed for dinner, wearing a black shirt and slacks, his hair perfectly tousled. Slate-gray eyes find me, and he gives me a slow once-over. This man is the father of my child. I hope they get those stormy cloud eyes of his.

“You look beautiful,” he rasps, offering me his hand. He pulls me up and smiles down at me, tucking my hair back behind my ear. “We have a plan to make sure we’re both going to be safe. Are you ready to go?”

I nod. “Yeah, let’s get this over with.”

“That excited to see your family?”

I roll my eyes. He links his hand with mine and leads me outside. “I just don’t know why he’d want to see me. Something feels off.”

“Nothing will happen to you,” he vows, giving my hand a gentle squeeze. “He will never hurt you again, princess.”

My hand moves to my stomach.

No, he won’t.

ELENA

My parents’ house is the same as I remember it, with the same golden crystal chandelier and expensive marble table. But so much has changed over the last few weeks that I feel like an unwelcome guest. We’re sitting in the same place we were when I first met Suit, almost like we’ve come full circle. My sister, Katerina, is sitting opposite Suit, her eyes greedily taking him in. My mother is opposite me, with my father at the head of the table. The air in the room is tense, and I want to know why.

“What are you wearing, Elena? You look very different,” my sister comments, running her pink-tipped fingernail around the rim of her champagne glass.

“I wear whatever I want,” I reply, forcing a smile.

“You look handsome tonight, Suit,” she coos, batting her lashes at him.

“Thank you,” he replies. “You look pretty also.”

She beams, and my mother smiles widely. “She does, doesn’t she? Pink was always her color. But then again, she looks good in anything.”

My stomach knots. He’s sitting across from me and compliments her? I know he wanted her. Preferred her. And it hurt. But him flattering her in front of me is like a knife to the stomach. The stomach that now is growing his child.

“The two of us would have looked good together,” Katerina adds softly, lifting her brows. She bends forward so he can see her cleavage. “Don’t you think so, Suit?” She pauses, and then adds, “Of course, you do, which is why you asked to marry me instead of my sister. Together we’d look like the ultimate power couple. We could still have that.”

What the fuck is she talking about?

What does she mean they could still have that?
