“This dress is four thousand dollars, Oliver,” she hisses, turning around to look at me with wide eyes.

Damn, I shouldn’t have let her look.

“They aren’t all that expensive,” I tell her, hoping I’m right. “Just try them on and let's see what you like.” I move to the front of the rack and pull off the first dress.

Hopefully, this one isn’t more.

Kat chews her lip, looking uncomfortable, and I take a second to check the tag, nearly sagging in relief when I see it's only seven hundred.

“Sunshine.” Her head snaps up at the nickname; I wasn’t sure it would stick at first, but now I’m positive. Her green eyes shine as she meets my gaze, and I’ve never felt like this with a woman—powerful and important.

With Kat, I’m not just a Lawson, not someone she has to deal with in order to stay close to my father and uncle, not someone she’s sleeping with because she wants Des or the ability to say she had two Lawson men, or a chance at our money.

No, I matter to Kat; I can see it in the way she looks at me, feel it in her smiles and gentle touches.

“Try the dress on. Let us worry about the cost.”

She holds my gaze for a moment, and I think she's going to argue, but then she sighs and moves toward me, taking the dress from my hands with a huff.

“Go and get comfortable, then, because this is going to take all day.” She points toward the couch as if I might go anywhere else, then turns and disappears into the fitting room, pulling the curtain closed behind her.

A smile tugs at my lips as I take a few steps to the couch and sit; it lasts all of two seconds before it melts away.

The curtain doesn’t go all the way to the floor, instead stopping about a foot above it. It doesn’t sound like a lot; it isn’t something I'd usually think twice about…

Until I see her clothes hitting the floor, her bare legs teasing me.

Today might be longer than I thought.

Family pictures. I remind myself for at least the third time as she comes out in a dress that hugs her every curve and shows off far too much skin.

I’m not sure Desmond could handle it if she wore this one outside. He might fight every man who looked at her, and I can’t imagine they wouldn’t.

Kat looks uncomfortable, and I know this isn’t the dress, but I can’t help feeling like it could be a dress for something. Not family pictures, but…

I hold up my phone and snap a picture for the group chat, just like I have every other one.

Kat pulls at the impossibly short hem, her cheeks dusted pink.

The whole dress is sheer lace and see-through, hugging every curve of her breasts in a low neckline, fitting to her hips like a glove before it flares into a skirt that stops well above mid-thigh. The only ‘modest’ part of this dress is the sleeves, but even covering her arms somehow feels sexy with the way they flare out at her wrists.

I’m honestly not sure how it even made it on the rack, but I’m grateful.

“Let’s try the next one. That’s beautiful, but not exactly family-appropriate," I tell her, hoping to make her feel better.

The tension melts from her shoulders as she sighs in relief and quickly moves back into the fitting room.

“Let’s hope I can get out of it,” she says with a chuckle, already seeming more like herself, and I laugh too because there were a lot of straps and lace.

My cock pulses, and I adjust. I’ve been hard since I watched her clothes hit the floor, and with every dress it gets worse.

I’m pretty sure I can’t possibly get harder at this point, but this isn’t exactly comfortable.

My phone vibrates, and I welcome the distraction.

I vote you fuck her before I have to come down there and do it myself.

Damn it, leave it to my father to not help at all.
